Profession

The medical profession has always been regarded as one of the most compassionate and responsible. Doctors assist people with childbirth and ensure proper growth and development, help them to overcome childhood illnesses and parenting issues, address health concerns in young, middle, elderly and old age, provide palliative care in terminal stages. All doors are open for future doctors! The programme provides highly skilled educators, fully equipped classrooms, breadboard models, simulation equipment, modern laboratories, leading hospitals and outpatient centres. You will have the opportunity to hone the basics of medicine, working side by side with the leaders of national practical healthcare.

At the end of your 6-year degree, you can work as a general practitioner or continue your residency training to become a subspecialty physician. Graduates with academic credentials who wish to combine their medical and academic careers enter postgraduate school.


Educational Process

“General Medicine” training traditionally starts with the development of theoretical disciplines such as anatomy, biology, histology, normal physiology and other courses, which help to understand the structure and work of the human body in all details. In the 3rd year, students learn about common pathological processes, the basics of diagnosis of internal diseases and the principles of pharmacological effects on organs and tissues. Starting from the 4th year students learn clinical courses which are followed by the transition to a cyclic schedule. For three years students study medicine in leading medical institutions (clinical bases), at the patient’s bedside, at outpatient appointments, in diagnostic and preventive departments.


Practice

“General Medicine” course attaches great attention to internships. Starting from the 1st year, the curriculum provides a large number of academic and industrial internships, which help to understand the medical profession and apply immediately obtained theoretical knowledge in real work. In their first years, students undertake sanitary internship, nursing internship, and internship in caring for patients of various categories. From the 4th year, students take an internship as a doctor’s assistant, particularly a general practitioner, surgeon, obstetrician-gynecologist, pediatrician, and outpatient physician. RUDN University clinical training bases are provided by leading medical institutions of Moscow region including Moscow Health Department institutions, the Ministry of Health of Moscow region institutions and federal medical institutions (clinical and scientific centers).


Career

After graduation from the University, the graduate gets a diploma in the speciality “General Medicine”. Further, the graduate passes the state primary accreditation to work as a local general practitioner or apply for a residency training course.
