Profession
Pathologies of the nervous system have been known dating ancient times. It was not until the middle of the XIX century that there has been accumulation of empirical knowledge about the nervous system and its diseases. It is on this basis that the creation and subsequent development of a branch of science called neurology was formulated.
The Inception of Neurology as an independent clinical discipline is considered to be in 1860, when the first neurological department in the world was opened in the city of Salpetriere near Paris, France, at the newly built medical faculty of the University of Paris by the 36-year-old doctor Jean Martin Charcot (1824-1893). Consequently, a fully independent clinical department of nervous diseases was created at the Medical Faculty of the University of Paris.
