Profession
Nursing is not a profession, it is a vocation! First of all, it is the art of creating favorable conditions for the recovery of patients: cleanliness, fresh air, a positive atmosphere, proper nutrition, monitoring of vital signs. The nurse’s unique task is to “assist a person, sick or healthy, in carrying out actions related to his health, recovery or a quiet death, which he would take, having the necessary strength, knowledge and will.” The nurse helps the patient to complete all the appointments prescribed by the doctor to gain speedy independence and health. She is a member of the medical care team, she helps doctors, participates in the planning and implementation of a full program of action — whether it be disease prevention, recovery or support for a dying person.
Educational Process
The term for mastering the basic educational training program in the specialty 34.03.01 “Nursing” in full-time education is four years or 240 credits.
The structure of the undergraduate program includes an obligatory part (basic) and a part formed by participants in educational relations (optional).
Disciplines (modules) related to the basic part of the program (philosophy,history, law, Latin, psychology, computer science, biology, human anatomy, normal physiology, healthy people and their surroundings, life safety, basic nursing, theory of nursing, microbiology , pharmacology, general pathology, general hygiene, hospital hygiene, organization of preventive work with the population, nursing in therapy, nursing in surgery, nursing in obstetrics and gynecology, pedagogy with teaching methodology, epidemiology, management theory, public health, pediatric nursing, nursing in infectious diseases and tuberculosis, nursing in psychiatry and narcology, etc.).
Disciplines (modules) related to the optional part of the program (biochemistry, history of medicine, paperwork, outpatient nursing, medical elementology, medical and pharmaceutical commodity science, the basics of rehabilitation, psychology in professional activities, the organization of palliative medicine, etc.).
Students are taught humanitarian and natural sciences disciplines by professors and teachers of specialized faculties of the university: Faculty of Science, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Philological Faculty and Faculty of Economics, Law Institute, Agrarian and Technological Institute. The teaching staff for 85% consists of candidates and doctors of sciences.
Practice
Training and production practices are held at the Simulation Training Centre and at University Clinics at the clinical bases of the city of Moscow, where students acquire and consolidate basic practical skills.
Theoretical and practical training of students is carried out in structural divisions of the Medical Institute of the RUDN University (academic and lecture halls, the Simulation Training Centre, University Clinics, with typical sets of professional models and the results of laboratory and instrumental studies in an amount that allows students to master the skills required by professional activities, individually).
Career
After graduating from the University in the specialty 34.03.01 “Nursing”, the graduate receives a diploma — Bachelor of “Nursing”.
Starting from the post of general practitioner nurse or assistant at the department, a RUDN graduate in the future will be able to become the deputy chief doctor for nursing personnel, the head nurse of the medical institution or the head of the department.
