Profession
Medical examination, or forensic medical expertise, is one of the most frequent types of research. Medical expertise is a common name for a whole range of medical research. According to the Federal law “On the basics of public health protection in the Russian Federation” (November 21, 2011, No. 323-F3) there are some areas of research: medical and social expertise, military-medical expertise, forensic medical expertise, forensic psychiatric expertise; examination of temporary disability; examination of the medical care quality; assessment of professional suitability; causal relationship assessment between disease and occupation within the kind of the expertise.
Medical expertise is on the crossroads of law and medicine and includes solving of social issues related to benefits and compensation for certain groups of citizens, the possibility of soldering. The demand for medical expertise is also explained by the fact that objective information about a person's health, the degree of the ability to work or damage to health, the degree of possibility of soldering or doing heavy physical labor, the estimation of possible family relations are often needed.
Educational Process
The objectives of the residency is to make a student ready for independent professional activity in the field of forensic medical expertise and make him able to conduct a full forensic medical expertise of a corpse with sampling of internal organs for additional laboratory studies, to conduct a forensic medical examination of victims, suspects and other people with the registration of the relevant documents, compilation of forensic medical diagnosis and conclusions to assist the investigator in detecting, fixing, sampling and packaging of evidence of biological origin at the place of their discovery, use the data of forensic medical examinations to improve the quality of health assessment, medical and sanitary education among the population.
Practice
The practical work of a resident includes working in Bureau of forensic medicine, working with operational investigative group at a crime scene, participation in clinical and anatomical and scientific and practical conferences, case recording either alone or with a supervisor, performing diagnostic procedures.
Career
The profession remains relevant in Russia. Due to the lack of qualified staff the number of vacancies remains at a high level. This allows the influx of new specialists that are required in almost any city of the country. The main place of work of forensic medical experts is the Bureau of forensic medical expertise. On the basis of the institution, specialized documentation is filled in, autopsies are performed, and the causes and the mechanisms of death are studied.
