Profession

Dentistry is a branch of medicine that is developing at a rapid pace these days. The section of сconservative dentistry deals with the restoration of the shape and color of teeth, the diagnosis and treatment of demineralization of hard tissues of carious and non-carious lesions, endodontic treatment, diseases of the oral mucosa and targeted prevention of dental diseases. Prosthetic dentistry deals with issues of functional and aesthetic rehabilitation of hard tissues of teeth, replacement of lost teeth in secondary partial adentia, restoration of the structure and function of the dentoalveolar system. Surgical and maxillofacial dentistry studies the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the oral cavity and maxillofacial region through surgical intervention. Pediatric dentistry studies dental diseases in children associated with age-related anatomical and physiological features of their development in different periods of life. Orthodontics includes the prevention and treatment of dental anomalies. Currently, developments in the field of digital diagnostics are actively integrated into dentistry, treatment methods and clinical processes are being improved. Educational Process

The curriculum is developed in accordance with the structure of the main educational program of higher education of the RUDN Medical Institute in the specialty Dentistry. The duration of students' education according to the educational program is in TSSI 2 years (1-2 courses), in PFUR 3 years (3-5 courses).
On 1-2 courses, students’ study on the territory and clinical bases of TSSI. At 3-5 years of study, classes are held at RUDN and on the territory of clinical bases assigned to the university. Lecture halls are equipped with a set of technical means necessary to ensure the display of information, an IT system, and an integrated equipment management system. Specialized and phantom classrooms are equipped for laboratory/practical studies, allowing the use of simulation technologies. This allows students to master the skills necessary for successful professional activity.

The curriculum includes three blocks.

Block I includes disciplines (modules) of the mandatory part, optional electives. The obligatory part includes disciplines: humanitarian, social and economic cycles (philosophy, bioethics, history of medicine, jurisprudence, Latin, economics, etc.); biomedical, natural science cycles (physics, mathematics, medical informatics, chemistry, biology, human anatomy, histology, physiology, immunology, etc.); related general medical (general surgery, obstetrics, dermatovenereology, neurology, psychiatry, etc.); professional (prevention, cariesology, endodontics, periodontology, prosthetics, oral surgery, orthodontics, etc.). Mastering special disciplines allows you to acquire professional manual skills.

Block II contains practices (1. Introductory practice 2. Practice for obtaining primary professional skills in the positions of nursing staff (Assistant to the ward and procedural nurse. 3. Assistant to the dentist (hygienist). 4. Assistant to the dentist (surgeon 5. Assistant dentist (therapist) 6. Assistant dentist (prosthetic) 7. Assistant dentist (pediatric) 8. Assistant dentist (general practice), including scientific-research work.

Block III – state attestation.

Practice

The acquisition and development of practical skills is carried out throughout the training. During the training course, skills are developed on phantoms, simulators and simulators. The acquisition of clinical knowledge and the development of practical skills are carried out in public and commercial dental departments and institutions assigned to the university. RUDN University students have the opportunity to do internships abroad. There is experience in conducting internships in Germany, Switzerland, Great Britain, Hungary.

Career

After graduating from the university in the specialty 31.05.03 "Dentistry", the student receives a diploma of a specialist dentist in general practice. To be admitted to the implementation of medical and preventive activities on the territory of the Russian Federation, a graduate must undergo primary accreditation of a specialist. This will make it possible to independently carry out medical activities. Graduates will be able to continue their studies in residency and postgraduate studies.
