Profession
Epidemiologists are public health physicians, who counteracts mass infections (epidemics, pandemics), and organizes treatment and prevention of the spread of epidemics. The profession focuses more on the causes of epidemics and the study of morbidity: analysis by region, examination of foci and sources of infection, development of a scheme for eliminating the epidemic. Also, the epidemiologist is responsible for monitoring the epidemic at catering industries, water channels, large appliance manufacturing units that pollute the environment.
Educational Process
During the course of training, residents master theoretical and methodological foundations of prevention of infectious and non-infectious diseases, acquire practical skills in organizing and conducting anti-epidemic and preventive measures in centers of infection and in medical institutions, and have the opportunity to gain practical knowledge by working in specialized departments of major clinical centers. Theoretical and practical training of residents is carried out in the structural divisions of the RUDN (educational and lecture halls, computer classes, simulation training center).
Practice
During the training, residents must learn to apply their knowledge in professional activities. The purpose of the practice is to consolidate theoretical knowledge, develop practical skills acquired during the training of a resident doctor and form professional competencies of an epidemiologist. Practice in the content of the program is at least 60% of the training time. The practice program includes: practice in a medical institution; practice in institutions the public health watchdog- rossanepidnadzor.
Career
Graduates of the residency are widely in demand in practical medicine at the level of outpatient and inpatient medical care, carry out their activities in institutions of the Rospotrebnadzor system, health care institutions that provide medical care to people with infectious diseases, as well as in multidisciplinary medical institutions, as a hospital epidemiologist.
