Endocrinology is exploring in the study of diseases caused by an impairment of the structure or function of the following endocrine glands (endocrine) — thyroid gland, pancreas, pituitary gland, adrenal gland and genital. The characteristic nature of endocrine diseases is the systemic manifestations of the disease, which is completely obvious, since hormones are the basis of metabolic regulation of the human body. Therefore, the endocrinologist must know very well internal diseases, neurology, cardiology and other sections of medicine. The specialty provides a very high level of medical qualification. The endocrinologist should not only diagnose and treat the underlying disease, but also explore the subsequent restoration of hormonal balance and the basic functions of the body (metabolism, reproductive function), prescribe and monitor replacement therapy if necessary.
Educational Process
Clinical Residents(CR) have the opportunity to gain practical knowledge and skills, working in specialized departments of the largest clinical centers, to attend and participate in clinical trials of patients, professor rounds, clinical and pathological conferences. Clinical Residents can take part in the research work in endocrinology and get the opportunity to continue (complete) their research in post graduate school. The educational process includes lectures and practical classes, interactive forms of training, practical skills in the classroom at the RUDN University simulation center.
Practice
Practical training is carried out on the basis of the University Clinic of Endocrinology. The Department of Endocrinology has 40 specialized beds, and the healthcare institution itself is the leading one in the Northeast Administrative District of Moscow and provides multidisciplinary specialized assistance to residents of the city.
Career
Graduated residents in the specialty are widely required in medical practice at the level of outpatient and inpatient medical care. They work successfully in the medical rehabilitation institutions (sanatoriums, dispensaries, rehabilitation centers), in research and training centers.
