Profession
In 1686, I. Newton's book “The Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy” was published in Latin in London. This work introduced and articulated the law of universal gravitation. Thus, the study of gravitation began. The next step was the creation of the general theory of relativity (GR) in 1915. Cosmology, which studies the Universe as a whole, was created at the beginning of the 20th century on the basis of general relativity. Relativistic astrophysics appeared in the second half of the 20th century in the course of solving the problem of gravitational collapse, which results in the formation of black holes. Thus, this program covers compact astrophysical objects and the Universe as a whole, considered within the framework of the general theory of relativity.
Educational Process
The program ensures the development and training of highly qualified specialists in the field of “Physics”, and also provides for a deep study of classical, multidimensional and quantum gravitation, including its applications to astrophysics and cosmology. In the course of the program mastering, students study the following disciplines:
— General astronomy;
— Classical field theory;
— Classical theory of gravitation;
— Theory of the nucleus and elementary particles;
— Quantum field theory;
— Quantum chromodynamics and string theory;
— Unified theory of electroweak interactions;
— Quantum gravitation;
— Multidimensional gravitation;
— Physics of black holes and wormholes;
— Relativistic astrophysics and cosmology;
— Evolution of stars and dynamics of galaxies;
— Space electrogasdynamics;
— Algebra and Geometry of Space-Time.
Practice
Internship is offered at RUDN University. Students conduct research work under their supervisors' guidance, participate in scientific conferences and seminars, explore literature in their specialty.
Career
The program is the unique in Russia. It enbraces elementary particle physics, gravitation, cosmology, and reativistics astrophysics under the world standards for multiskilled specialists. On the educational program completion, the graduate will be able to enroll on a PhD program to obtain the PhD degree in Physics and Mathematics. Versatile training paves the way for graduates' recruitment at research institutes and universities, including foreign ones. Potential employers are organizations that run space programs, including institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
