Profession

A graduate in Arts and Humanities is able to work in various areas of culture, both in traditional (museums and exhibition halls, theatres, concert halls, publishing and television) and the ones related to cultural management. Graduates can work as curators of exhibition projects, in museums, galleries, independent cultural institutions, as well as organize large-scale cultural projects, festivals, biennials. Graduates can also engage in teaching and research activities in culture and art.


Educational Process

In the implementation of the bachelor's program 50.03.01 "Arts and Humanities" at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, innovative learning models are used. The main task is to train a cultural manager who is confidently oriented in the latest areas of culture and in the field of modern cultural policy. Particular attention is paid to the problems of applied cultural studies: analysis and interpretation of monuments of culture and art, museology, excursion business, sociocultural design, theory and practice of show business, management in the field of culture, brand management, curatorial activities in the field of contemporary art, etc. In addition to the basic courses, teachers give unique author's courses that reflect current research strategies in the field of the humanities: the theory and practice of show business, the culture and art of modernism, the history and theory of cinema: world cinema of the 20th century, the aesthetics of the Bauhaus art direction, the history and theory of music and theater : sound and music in the system of culture, augmented and virtual reality (AR / VR) technologies in the field of culture, interactive storytelling in contemporary art, producing projects in the field of creative industries.


Practice

The purpose of the internship is to master the skills of managerial, curatorial, and exhibition work in various fields of culture. Students get acquainted with the goals and objectives of the chosen cultural institution, with the work of various departments of cultural and museum institutions, and are integrated into the work process. They also participate in sociocultural design—they participate in the development of projects in the field of culture and art, depending on the specialization of the practice base and the research topic. Industrial practice is interdisciplinary. The current sociocultural situation and the era of cultural changes have raised the question of the need for active immersion of the future specialist in the professional environment. In the context of expanding the interaction between theory and practice, the development of skills and competencies through participation in specific practical activities and project work is becoming more relevant today. This approach helps students in this direction solve general cultural and professional problems in the future. Places of practice are selected in accordance with the agreements concluded with cultural institutions that are currently in force. Places of practice: institutions of culture and art: museums, theaters, galleries, exhibition centers, centers of contemporary culture, expo centers, houses of culture: fashion houses, film companies, television companies, publishing houses, etc.


Career

When analyzing information about the graduates' employment, one can say with confidence that graduates in Arts and Humanities are in demand in this market segment. The most common specializations can be singled out: culturologist and general art historian, manager of cultural projects, curator of contemporary art, gallery administrator, coordinator of cultural projects in museums, galleries, institutions of culture and art, etc. Our graduates become co-curators of large Russian and international projects temporarily and after completing their professional internships. Today, our graduates work in almost all major institutions of contemporary art. The Department of Theory and History of Culture cooperates with many cultural institutions and famous museums in Moscow involving its students in volunteer work and contributing to the development of art and cultural industries in Moscow. Students who successfully complete their studies are issued a document on higher professional education of the state standard and are awarded an academic degree of Bachelor of Arts and Humanities.
