History is the science of people which studies their activities and worldview both in the past and in the present.
The programme is intended for those who seek to understand history of Russia relying on modern research methods and historiographical tradition. It specifically focuses on history of political parties and movements in Russia in the past and present, characteristics of domestic elites, processes of modernization of society, transnational relations and migration, significance of Russia in international relations, role of historical memory in the modern world. The acquired knowledge about the past of the country makes it possible to comprehend its present, present it as an integrative part of the modern world. Our graduates are familiar with the latest approaches (modernization theory, etc.) and scientific schools: anthropological history, history of everyday life, gender history, history of mentalities, sociocultural history. Knowledge, ability to analyze, search for agreement between socio-political and international forces opposing each other form the basis of the profession of a historian. Our graduates in history have learned not only to identify and understand the contents of documents, but systematize and analyze them, which created the conditions for writing their own original scientific texts.
Educational Process
In the first year of the master’s programme, students are intensively immersed in the theory and history of historical science. Students study the current state of Russian and foreign historiography, historical journalism, tools for knowing the past and means of using historical knowledge in the present.

Actual Problems of Historical Research, Modern History of Historical Science, Computer Technologies in Historical Research, Foreign Historiography of History of Russia, History of Political Parties and Movements in Russia in 20th — early 21st centuries, History of Russian Entrepreneurship, Historical Journalism, Russia in the Modern World, History of Russian Diaspora, etc.
Practice
Special discussions, master classes by leading historians, participation in round tables and international conferences, writing reviews and articles for collections and journals form the professional competencies of future specialists. Master’s students undergo research, teaching and pre-degree internships in research, cultural, international and higher educational institutions, as well as in public authorities.
Career
After successfully mastering the educational programme, a graduate will be able to do research work, act as an expert and analyst in various state and international institutions, public and political organizations, business entities; work in the media, archives and museums; become a specialist in historical, cultural and educational tourism.
Graduates receive an impulse to constantly improve their professional level, they are able not only to do research and teaching work, but also fulfill the mission of an international humanitarian ready to formulate and defend the values of freedom and dignity of the individual, friendship of peoples, interaction of cultures, cooperation of states.
