Profession

No other social or humanitarian science has such a large scope of application as sociology. Every enterprise, every serious project needs research, every social programme requires sociological support. A graduate in sociology always has a choice: to pursue a career in marketing or in human resources, in international projects or at universities and research centres, in the media or politics, in business or academic institutions.
Graduates can engage in research activities in studying social issues; production and applied activities in social and economic policy, social expertise, marketing; information and consulting work in government and administration, institutions of education, culture, healthcare, social communication and other areas; project activities (diagnostics, planning and evaluation of current indicators that characterize the objects of professional activity); organizational and managerial activities in various professional fields; teaching activity.


Educational Process

Highly qualified sociologists — researchers and practitioners — are trained within the framework of presented programme 39.03.01 “Sociology”. Along with the study of theoretical subjects, students master the latest research methods and technologies used in modern sociology within the framework of a sociological workshop.
The bachelor’s curriculum consists of general education disciplines and a block of basic sociological subjects.
As a result of training, students acquire competencies that allow them to use the main sociological approaches, theories and concepts to describe and analyze social reality; use the skills of conducting applied sociological research, modern methods of collecting empirical data and analyzing sociological information to study social processes and phenomena within the framework of professional ethical standards; apply social technologies in practice to transform social objects and regulate social processes.

Students who completed programme 39.03.01 “Sociology” are successfully employed in various structures:
— largest research and analytical companies (GFK, Ipsos, TNS, Romir, Synovate Comcon, RosBusinessConsulting, NAMACON Analytical Centre, Business Analytics, Tiburon Research, etc.);
— large international and Russian companies (Gazprom, Gazprom Energo, Mosenergo, CB Delta Credit, CB Raiffeisen Bank, Adidas, Hame Foods, L'Oreal, 3M, Yves Rocher, Belaya Dacha Trading, etc.);
