A sociologist studies society as a whole, as well as various social issues, social facts, social groups. The area to study is huge, so modern sociology is waiting for new research specialists who are ready to shed light on how society works, functions, develops, and how various social groups and institutions behave.
A graduate in sociology always has a choice: to pursue a career in marketing or in human resources, in international projects or at universities and in research centres, in the media or politics, business or academic institutions. Some limit themselves to a career in business, others plunge headlong into academic life, someone decides to enter politics or devotes themselves to activities within the framework of a specific social problem.
Educational Process
The priority of this field of study under the master’s programme is the combination of research and social engineering profiles in the activities of a sociologist. Fundamental theoretical and methodological training is complemented by an impressive cycle of applied social and managerial disciplines that allow mastering the skill of effective social technologies in the practice of managing modern organizations.
Practice
Master’s programmes are both research and practice-oriented. The topic of almost every master’s thesis involves doing individual empirical research. In the second year of study, students undergo on-the-job, teaching and pre-degree internships. Work placement is organized not only at university. Our permanent partners are the leading sociological research centres of Russia, including the All-Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VTsIOM), TNS Gallup Media, Romir Monitoring Standard, International Institute for Marketing and Social Research GfK-Rus, etc. During internships, contacts are established with future employers.
Career
The specialized areas of employment for master’s graduates of this field of study include such areas as analytical support for management activities; management consulting and strategic planning; intra-organizational innovations; research into organizational dysfunctions, including labor conflicts; research of organizational culture; optimization of social and personnel policies of organizations; HR management; PR technologies; etc.
