Profession

As professional activity Cybersecurity is aimed towards protection of systems, networks and software from cyberattacks on organizations and individuals. Cyberattacks commonly target acquiring access to confidential information, its altering or destruction, extortion, corruption of business processes and copyrights. In terms of economics, cybersecurity is determined by fast paced development of digital technologies leading to drastic increase in public danger and potential digital threats to citizens, public institutions and private companies from cybercriminal societies. All this requires training of high-class specialists capable of effectively managing cybersecurity in economics in various scenarios. The professional field of business informatics with a specialization in “Cybersecurity in Economics” is aimed at the development and application of information technologies and mathematical methods for solving business analysis problems in order to form possible solutions (including managerial ones) for the development and optimization of business processes in an organization.
Cybersecurity specialists in economics get involved in developing cybersecurity architecture of an enterprise, managing integration projects in the field of cybersecurity, building cybersecurity models of an enterprise, applications, infrastructure, analyzing and modeling business processes in order to further implement and maintain security systems.


Educational Process

The Syllabus provides for future specialist’s knowledge and skills related to business analysis, design of models, methods, algorithms, software, tools required for business analysis.
Within the first and second years students acquire necessary knowledge in mathematics, programming and IT. Their subjects are taught by highly qualified professors and associate professors of the Faculty of Science: “Linear algebra”, “Mathematical analysis”, “Discrete mathematics and combinatorial algorithms”, “Mathematical logic and algorithm theory”, “Finite graph theory”, “Probability theory and mathematical statistics”, “Computer systems architecture”, “Operational systems”, “Computer science and cybernetics basics”, “Computer systems, networks and telecommunications”, “Relational databases”, “Information security”, “Programming basics”, “Machine learning basics”, “Basics of data analysis in machine learning”.
During the first and second years students acquire necessary knowledge in economics, management and law in the area of cybersecurity in economics. The relevant subjects are taught by highly qualified professors and associate professors of the Faculty of Economics: “Macroeconomics”, “Microeconomics and management”, “Finance”, “Global economics”, “Currency regulation and foreign exchange controls”, “Enterprise architecture and vulnerability analysis”, “IT infrastructure of enterprise”, “Basics of corporate information communication system development”, “Business process modelling”, “Digital transformation of the global economy”, “International payment systems”, “E-commerce”, “ICT market and sales organization”, “Economic security in modern conditions”, “Shadow economy”, “Financial security”, “Innovations in business”, “Design thinking”.
Students can choose one of the professional tracks for the third and fourth years:
Track 1: Cyber security of the enterprise (specialization at the Faculty of Science).
In the 3rd and 4th years students acquire knowledge in enterprise cybersecurity by mastering the subjects taught by highly qualified specialists in the field of encryption and cybersecurity:
“Sources of cybersecurity threats”, “Technologies for ensuring cybersecurity of enterprises”, “Counteracting the spread of false and malicious information in cyberspace”, “Practical protection of networks based on data analysis”, “Data analysis and performance indicators of enterprise cybersecurity”, “Application of machine learning in cybersecurity “.
Track 2: Economic cybersecurity (based on the Faculty of Economics).
In the 3rd and 4th years the syllabus grants students necessary knowledge in the field of economic cybersecurity, mastering the subjects taught by professors highly qualified in the field of economic cybersecurity:
“Security of personal finance”, “Cybersecurity of payment systems”, “Economy of the “Smart City” and ensuring the security of its functioning”, “Cyberpolygon”, “Business analytics and decision-making methods based on Big Data”, “Blockchain distributed ledger technologies”.

Practice

The syllabus provides for internships aimed at developing practical skills and their integration with theoretical knowledge, research work and vocational placement.
Internship and research work are carried out using the Сomputer center of the Office for Information Technology Support of the RUDN University, scientific and educational laboratory “Information Сommunication Management” of the Department of Applied Informatics and Probability Theory, scientific centers and laboratories of the Institute of Applied Mathematics and Telecommunications of RUDN.
The internship is carried out in accordance with cooperation agreements with the Federal Research Center “Computer Science and Control” of the Russian Academy of Sciences, LLC “Technologies of System Analysis”, CJSC “RosInternet Technologies”, at the enterprises of Domodedovo Airport within the framework of the “Pritok” program.
Every year students have the opportunity to take part in master classes by leading experts and representatives of employers in the real sectors of economy, Russian and foreign scientists from leading universities and research centers, in academic mobility programs in accordance with cooperation agreements with foreign scientific organizations, in particular Tampere University, Brno University of Technology, Mediterranea University of Reggio Calabria, University of Pisa, University of Lisbon, King's College London, University of Granada, KTH Royal Institute of Technology.


Career

Bachelor Graduates trained in Business Informatics specialized in “Cybersecurity in Economics” can build their careers both as analyst developers of specialized software or cybersecurity specialists involved in development and implementation of information systems for various purposes, and as cybersecurity managers of IT departments of enterprises: IT project managers, IT managers of cybersecurity projects, IT consultants in information communications and intellectual systems. Possible jobs: cybersecurity business analyst, cybersecurity specialist in the development and operation of information systems; project manager in information technology cybersecurity; cybersecurity consultant in software development; cybersecurity system analyst. Possible employers: domestic and foreign companies, the banking sector, analytical and IT departments of state corporations and IT companies.
