Profession

Postgraduates of “Computer and Information Sciences” program can be employed as scientific and pedagogical workers of the highest qualification — candidates of physical and mathematical sciences. They are capable of doing innovative activities in the relevant areas of computational mathematics, as well as in related fields of science and higher education. Some of our graduates are future top managers and heads of IT companies. Obtaining a degree in this area has the following benefits for career development:
formation of skills for independent research and teaching activities;
— in-depth study of the theoretical and methodological foundations of computational mathematics, discrete mathematics, and mathematical cybernetics;
— improvement of philosophical training focused on professional activity;
— improving knowledge of a foreign language for use in scientific and professional activities;
— formation of competencies necessary for successful scientific and pedagogical work in the field of computational mathematics, discrete mathematics, and mathematical cybernetics; and related fields of science;
— the presence of erudition and fundamental scientific training;
— the ability to formulate scientific topics in the chosen specialty;
— the ability to organize and conduct research in the chosen scientific specialty;
— the ability to innovate in the relevant areas of computational mathematics, discrete mathematics, and mathematical cybernetics;
— possession of modern information technologies;
— possession of teaching methods in higher education.

Educational Process

The program includes introduction lectures, a large amount of practical training on the basis of the Faculty of Science of the RUDN University and leading computer centers in Moscow. The preparation of a postgraduate thesis is carried out using powerful computing equipment under the guidance of leading specialists — doctors and candidates of sciences, as well as heads of research centers and laboratories in computer and information centers.
During the course of the program, graduate students study the following disciplines:
First academic year:
Block 1. “Common Subjects”:
Mandatory subjects: “Foreign language”; “History and philosophy of science”.
Electives: “Methodology of scientific research”; “Methods of teaching computer and information sciences in higher education”.
Electives (1 out of 2): “Software for scientific research”; “Modern Methods of Computational Mathematics”.
Block 2. “Internship”: teaching internship.
Block 3. “Research”.
Second academic year:
Block 1. “Computational mathematics”
Electives (1 discipline out of 2): “Difference Methods for Discretization of Continuous Mathematical Models”; Elective subjects from another program (within the branch of sciences).
Block 2. “Internship”: teaching internship.
Block 3. “Research”.
Third academic year:
Block 2. “Internship”: research internship; teaching internship.
Block 3. “Research”.
Block 4. “State final certification”: the state exam; presentation of a scientific report on the main results of the prepared scientific qualification work (dissertation).
Much time is devoted to postgraduates’ research activities, researchers’ teamwork and dissertation preparation. The entire educational process and scientific research are carried out in multimedia classrooms and scientific and educational laboratories and centers at the Institute of Applied Mathematics and Telecommunications, as well as in computer classes equipped with modern facilities and software for conducting computational experiments.

Practice

Those who have chosen a career as a specialist in computer and information sciences are supposed to deal with theoretical and practical problems of programming and data processing, solve problems related to both software and hardware.
Postgraduates work in different organizations:
— public institutions and private IT companies;
— research institutes in the field of computer and information sciences;
— public and private educational institutions providing training in “Computer and information sciences”.
Postgraduates can hold the following positions:
— scientific and pedagogical personnel of the highest qualification, teachers of higher education;
— IT project managers;
— leading programmers;
— heads of IT departments;
— top managers and heads of IT companies.
Postgraduates who have mastered the postgraduate program deal with:
— projects in the field of computer and information technologies;
— mathematical, information, simulation models of systems and processes;
— software and information support of computer facilities, networks, information systems;
— algorithms, libraries and software packages;
— physical and mathematical models, numerical algorithms and programs;
— methods of experimental study of the properties of materials and natural phenomena, physical and chemical processes that make up the content of fundamental and applied mathematics, mechanics and other natural sciences, examination and monitoring of complex technical systems.
The research practice, teaching practice and scientific research provided for by the curriculum are carried out on the basis of the computer center of the Office of Information Technology Support, Low Current and Telecommunication Systems of the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, as well as on the basis of the scientific and educational laboratory “Infocommunication Management” of the Department of Applied Informatics and Probability Theory and the Laboratory advanced research of fifth generation networks (5G) and the Internet of Things of the Institute of Applied Mathematics and Telecommunications of the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia. There is a modern laboratory and material and technical base — self-organizing laboratories based on Wi-Fi technology, classrooms with multimedia learning tools, eLearning tools with the possibility of implementing virtual classes and special laboratories.
When conducting scientific research, the following scientific problems and tasks are considered:
— application of theoretical methods of teletraffic in information and telecommunication technologies;
