Profession
The area of professional activity of the master in applied mathematics and computer science is research and mathematical modeling, communications, information and communication technologies in the areas of software development and testing, creation, support and administration of information and communication systems, as well as education in the fields of general, professional and additional training. The success of professional activities in these areas is based on the elegance and universality of mathematical models, the power of modern computer systems and the effectiveness of the latest information technologies.
Graduates are in demand in all organizations and structures where computer technology is used. They can engage in research activities, are able to solve actual problems of fundamental and applied mathematics, improve and implement new mathematical methods for solving applied problems, develop mathematical models and analyze them when solving problems in the field of professional activity, combine and adapt existing information and communication technologies to solve tasks in the field of professional activity, taking into account the requirements of information security.
Educational Process
The master’s program sets itself the goal of forming future specialists with modern knowledge in the field of solving theoretical and applied problems, and instilling in students a penchant for research. The obligatory part of the program includes fundamental training in mathematics, the study of modern mathematical methods and active research work.
During the training program, students study the following disciplines:
First year of study:
— History and methodology of mathematics and computer science;
— Applied problems of mathematical modeling;
— Continuous mathematical models;
— Discrete mathematical models;
— Mathematical control theory;
— Nonlocal boundary value problems;
— High-performance computing processes in problems of mathematical physics;
— Nonlinear problems of mathematical physics;
— Mathematical models in economics and ecology;
— Foreign language in the professional activities of the master;
— Unit of disciplines of choice: Mathematical models of elasticity theory, Mathematical models of continuous media.
— Unit of disciplines of choice: Functional differential equations, Control systems with aftereffect.
Second year of study:
— Philosophy and methodology of scientific knowledge, including the module “Fundamentals of the application of the results of space activities in the interests of the development of natural sciences”;
— Additional chapters of mathematical modeling;
— Neural networks;
— Nonlocal problems of mathematical physics;
— Additional chapters of computational methods;
— Unit of disciplines of choice: Analytical and numerical methods for hydrodynamic problems, Additional chapters in game theory and economic forecasting.
Considerable time is devoted to the student's research work, work in a team of researchers, and to prepare the final work. The entire educational process and scientific research are carried out in multimedia classrooms and scientific and educational laboratories and centers of the Academician S.M. Nikolsky, as well as in computer classes equipped with modern equipment and software for conducting computational experiments.
Practice
The research work and practices envisaged by the curriculum are carried out on the basis of the Scientific Center for Nonlinear Problems of Mathematical Physics of the Mathematical Institute named after Academician S.M. Nikolsky.
For masters, master classes are held annually by leading experts and representatives of employers from real sectors of the economy, Russian and foreign scientists from leading universities and research centers. There is an all-Moscow scientific seminar on differential and functional-differential equations, in which major Russian and foreign mathematicians, teachers, students, graduate students and doctoral students take part. Mathematical Institute. CM. Nikolsky closely collaborates with Moscow State University. M.V. Lomonosov Mathematical Institute. V.A. Steklov RAS, Computing Center RAS. A.A. Dorodnitsyna, Moscow Aviation Institute.
Career
The acquired knowledge and practical skills allow graduates to work in scientific and research centers. Graduates are in demand in the aviation and space industries, and thanks to teacher training, also in education. In addition, many of them work in the financial sector: banks, major insurance companies, investment and pension funds.
Examples of professions:
— Researcher at a research institute;
— programmer, system administrator in IT enterprises and divisions of commercial organizations;
— financial analyst and applied programmer in the financial divisions of state and commercial organizations;
— teacher in a higher education institution
There is the possibility of continuing studies in graduate school in the following areas:
— 01.06.01 “Mathematics and Mechanics”
— 09.06.01 “Informatics and computer engineering”
