Profession
No economy in the world can exist without accounting. The history of accounting is as old as civilization. “Accounting is an art. A profession that requires talent and patience. A special talent to see behind numbers the complex world of economics in its interconnections and harmony” — this statement belongs to Swiss scientist Johann Stemmle and very accurately describes the profession of accountant and auditor. Studying in the “Accounting and Audit” programme will give you the opportunity not only to become an accountant, but also to gain knowledge in the field of auditing. There are a number of areas of professional activity — consulting, auditing, tax accounting, financial planning. The profession is in demand both in small towns and in major metropolitan areas and guarantees the possibility of career growth. Moreover, each year of work will only contribute to your value as a specialist. Another advantage of the profession is the possibility of freelancing — free working hours.
Educational Process
The practice-oriented approach to teaching in the programme is provided by highly qualified lecturers with extensive experience of practice, many of whom are part-time chief accountants, auditors, and tax consultants of Moscow enterprises and firms, and who are certified auditors by the Russian Ministry of Finance and a professional accountant by the IPAR.
The lecturers of the department teach more than 50 courses, including “Accounting”, “Business Analysis”, “International Financial Reporting Standards”, “Financial Accounting”, “Statistics”, “Managerial Accounting”, “Practical Audit”, “International Auditing Standards”, “Payroll Accounting”, “Business Process Automation in 1C software”.
The educational process is implemented with the collaboration of our partners: “PWC”, “Deloitte”, SPS “Consultant Plus”, BSS “Sistema Glavbukh”, that invite students of this course for internships starting from the third year.
Practice
The basis of the programme's educational process is a close merger of basic theoretical training and mastering the skills and knowledge gained in practice, which enables our graduates to successfully compete in the Russian and international labour markets.
Internships for students take place in the Office of the Federal Tax Service, Ministry of Economic Development, Nestle, Aktion-Digital LTD, PWC and other leading auditing companies. Students have the opportunity to gain practical skills in accounting for the financial and economic activities of an organisation, to take part in an audit, and to learn the rules of preparing accounting and auditing documentation.
We interact with our employers not only for internships and work placement, but also for educational purposes. Our partners hold workshops and seminars and provide case studies.
Career
The complicated processes of reforming domestic accounting in accordance with the requirements of international standards increase the importance of high-quality specialised education of university graduates. Many enterprises and organisations need competent specialists in accounting, analysis and audit, management and planning, and there is a growing demand for advice in this area from both government agencies and commercial structures. The most attractive companies for young audit professionals are the Big Four: Deloitte, PWC, EY, KPMG. The transition from trainee to the specialist consultant-manager is built over a short period of time. In 10 years in the profession, you can become a partner. Work in audit companies provides a slow but steady rise, an acceptable level of income, and good opportunities for professional development.
Graduates of the specialty have the opportunity to continue their studies for a Master’s degree.
