A financier is a specialist in the field of cash-flow management, who is well acquainted with trends in financial markets, is able to foresee changes, analyse risks and successfully invest money in various projects.
At present the profession of financier is one of the most needed in the labor market. Any company is interested in specialists who are capable of managing finances properly. The field of interest of a modern financier includes all types of monetary circulation: investments, lending, transactions, debt collection, et al. A financier's specialisation depends on the type of monetary circulation he or she deals with. For instance, we can distinguish financiers who are engaged in banking; taxation and budgeting; investments; insurance; foreign economic activity (financial international transactions).
Educational Process
During the second year, students are introduced to the basic courses of the specialty — “Finance”, which provides an insight to the diversity of the world of finance and functioning of the various elements of the state financial system. Since the third year, students receive advanced knowledge in the field of monetary circulation, banking, corporate finance, stock market, financial analysis and investments.
The courses are as follows: “Money, Credit, Banks”, “Banking”, “Securities Market”, “Financial Management”, “Insurance”, “Public Sector Finance”, “Taxes and Taxation”, “Investments”, “Financial Risk Management”, et al.
Practice
The work placement is organized in subdivisions of commercial banks, investment companies and funds, accounting and financial departments of enterprises of all types of ownership, and state authorities. Our students have the opportunity to complete work placement at VTB PJSC; Rosbank PJSC; Sberbank of Russia PJSC; Rosgosstrakh Ltd; KIT Finance Broker; KPMG; the Federal Taxation Service (FTS) et al. Participation in the “Modern Banking Business” summer school provides an opportunity to gain practical skills in the banking sector. The summer school is organised at the premises of top banks operating in all segments of the financial market (VTB Bank, Sberbank, Alfa-Bank and Rosbank). Master classes are delivered by professional financiers. The range of topics discussed depends on the current situation in the financial sector. The last summer school enabled students to explore the specifics of working with clients in a digitalised environment; learn the particularities of bank risk management with regard to the latest Basel and mega-regulator requirements; participate in product development for retail banking using AGILE and SCRUM technologies; discuss the “too big to fail” phenomenon as applied to the banking sector; and solve several case studies. The summer school is an excellent means of developing your financial skills under the guidance of the top business coaches!
The programme incorporates regular masterclasses from specialists in the financial sector. For instance, the courses of the most recent master classes include: “Digital transformation of business processes” from Kirill Tsoy, lead product manager of Dodo Brands IS; “New finance in the digital world” from Oleg Pelevin, CEO of ALPA&OMEGA PAYMENT SYSTEM; “Bonds as an instrument for a conservative investor” from Sergey Romanov, senior manager of VIP-client department of Freedom Finance Investment Company, et al.
Students are involved in building professional skills, developing an investment portfolio, analyzing an investment project, assessing the risk of financial instruments, substantiating a financial plan, analyzing financial statements. These and other financial skills are acquired through business games and seminars. Master classes of financial experts, meetings with potential employers, participation in thematic competitions and contests also contribute to the enhancement of professional abilities of future financiers.

Career
Upon completion the Finance and Credit programme, graduates are qualified to obtain employment in investment funds, banks, large holdings, trust companies and financial-industrial groups. A successful career often depends on the size of the company: the bigger the company, the better the prospects. You can start your career as a finance professional, gradually increasing your professional skills. An experienced specialist can eventually apply for the position of financial or chief executive officer. There are many areas where graduates of the programme enjoy opportunities: investment, financial management, banking, civil service, exchange control, et al.
