A healthcare lawyer is not just a legal advisor, he is a member of a multidisciplinary team, a full-fledged participant in the development of the economic development strategy for medical or pharmaceutical organization of any form of ownership. The role of a lawyer in a medical and pharmaceutical organization can be compared with the role of a defender, whose task is to make sure that the management of a medical (pharmaceutical) organization, employees of the organization (primarily medical (pharmaceutical) workers) are absolutely sure that their lawyer is a real “universal soldier “, capable of representing their interests not only in conflict situations with patients, but also in relations with control and supervisory and law enforcement agencies. The scope of functions performed is the main difference between the concepts of a lawyer and a medical lawyer. A medical lawyer is a bit of a doctor, his specific feature is deep understanding of medical and pharmaceutical activities particulars, along with this a medical lawyer can be not only a “shield” of a medical or pharmaceutical organization, but also can competently represent the interests of medical and pharmaceutical workers or patients in court.


Educational Process

The programme is structured in such a way that the student, within the framework of lecture blocks, receives only introductory data on the discipline. Most of the classes are held in the form of seminars, where the latest trends in the relevant area of legal regulation are discussed. Analysis of cases, specific court decisions makes it possible to see the application of certain provisions of the legislation regulating the medical and pharmaceutical spheres in practice. Students regularly take part in round tables, scientific seminars and conferences, publish articles in scientific journals. They are active in conducting research work.
Training under the programme allows you to acquire the knowledge and professional skills required by a lawyer working in healthcare. The programme provides an opportunity to form an individual curriculum. From the blocks of disciplines, the student chooses those that are most interesting to him. These can be courses on the legal regulation of control and supervision activities in the healthcare sector, the peculiarities of representing the interests of medical and pharmaceutical organizations in the judiciary, or information and digital technologies in medical and pharmaceutical activities.

Practice

At the student's choice, this can be an internship in law firms in the city of Moscow and the Moscow region, specializing in legal support of medical and pharmaceutical organizations, an internship in a large medical organization (after an interview). Within 6 weeks, students have the opportunity to apply the knowledge gained in practice: participate in the negotiation process, draw up legal documents, including procedural ones, resolve disputes arising from medical (pharmaceutical) workers and patients, conduct an audit of medical (pharmaceutical) activities in organizations.


Career

Graduates of the programme will be in demand by employers, since they have a wide range of acquired knowledge and skills in the field of legal support of medical (pharmaceutical) organization activities, they will be able to work both in the state health care system and in private clinics. Graduates will also be able to hold positions of the state civil service in federal executive bodies and executive bodies of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation, which are responsible for the development of health policy.
