Profession

Professional activities of bachelor graduates specialized in Applied Mathematics and Programming include research work, information and communication technologies in the field of project work, creation and testing of software; maintenance and administration of databases and communication systems, management of informational resources on the Internet. Graduates are in demand in all organizations and divisions where computer technologies are used. They are capable of doing research, developing software for effective solutions of innovative tasks, modeling processes and doing calculations in different areas including aircraft and space industries as well as in general, professional and additional education.

Educational Process

Students of this course receive knowledge in mathematics, informatics and specialized subjects; learn how to use information technologies in finance and investments; create models of mathematical processes; conduct computing experiments; learn how to deal with modern algorithms of computer mathematics.
The course comprises mandatory and elective subjects, the latter of which define a student’s more specific learning trajectory.
The first two years are dedicated to the basic disciplines in math.
The last two years are largely dedicated to research work in modern mathematics and informatics, more specifically, in one of the following areas: mathematical modeling, optimization, numerical methods of solving practical tasks, probability theory and mathematical statistics, banking mathematics, actuarial and financial analysis, information security, practical tasks of differential equations and mathematical physics.

Practice

The curriculum includes research work based the computer center and research laboratories of S.M. Nikol’skii Mathematical Institute and Institute of Computer Science and Telecommunications of the RUDN University.
Students are also invited to annual master classes taught by leading experts, representatives of employers working in active economic sectors, and Russian and foreign scientists from leading universities and scientific centers.

Career

Those who have chosen a career as a specialist in the field of applied mathematics and programming can apply the obtained skills and knowledge in education, science, finance and industry, and in investment funds. Students’ range of future professions include analyst programmer, researcher, developer of mathematical models for processes, mathematical modeling consultant, database administrator, mathematics and informatics teacher. Graduates can also work in the relevant areas where their competencies gained during studying are required. Bachelor graduates are also capable of working in interdisciplinary teams as well as pursuing further to do a master’s degree.
