Profession
Professional activities of bachelor graduates specialized in Applied Mathematics and Programming include research work, information and communication technologies in the field of project work, creation and testing of software; maintenance and administration of databases and communication systems, management of informational resources on the Internet. Graduates are in demand in all organizations and divisions where computer technologies are used. They are capable of doing research, developing software for effective solutions of innovative tasks, modeling processes and doing calculations in different areas including aircraft and space industries as well as in general, professional and additional education.
Educational Process
Students receive fundamental knowledge in mathematics, computer science and special disciplines, learn to use information technologies in finance, insurance, and investment, conduct mathematical modeling of processes and demonstrative computing experiments, and navigate modern computer mathematics algorithms. During the four years of training, students study disciplines directly related to their future professional activities, as well as a wide range of natural and social-humanitarian sciences. The program consists of a set of basic subjects to be studied on a mandatory basis, and a set of electives, determining the possible trajectory of study and a narrower professional specialization. Students are involved in solving scientific problems in:
- partial differential equations;
- mathematical modeling and computational mathematics;
- mathematical economic forecasting, risk analysis.
The graduate division is the S.M. Nikol’skii Mathematical Institute.
Practice
The curriculum includes research work based on the research laboratories of the S.M. Nikol’skii Mathematical Institute of the RUDN University.
Students are also invited to annual master classes taught by leading experts, representatives of employers working in active economic sectors, and Russian and foreign scientists from leading universities and scientific centers.
Career
Those who have chosen a career as a specialist in the field of applied mathematics and programming can apply the obtained skills and knowledge in education, science, finance and industry, and in investment funds. Students’ range of future professions include analyst programmer, researcher, developer of mathematical models for processes, mathematical modeling consultant, database administrator, mathematics and informatics teacher. Graduates can also work in the relevant areas where their competencies gained during studying are required. Bachelor graduates are also capable of working in interdisciplinary teams as well as pursuing further to do a master’s degree.
