A pediatric cardiologist treats children from birth to 18 years. The attention of the pediatric cardiologist as critical congenital malformations of the heart, infectious and inflammatory diseases of the cardiovascular system, Kawasaki disease and much more. The task of a pediatric cardiologist is the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of congenital and acquired pathologies of the cardiovascular system of children and adolescents.
Educational Process
The priority sections of the educational program are sections related to the issues of diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation in life-threatening and common cardiovascular diseases in children. The program focuses on modern aspects of critical congenital heart defects, including aspects of surgical and endovascular treatment, the diagnosis and treatment of infectious and inflammatory diseases of the heart, myocarditis, Kawasaki disease, early atherogenesis, pathological transformation of sports heart, autonomic dysfunction. The program presents such important pediatric aspects of pediatric cardiology as immunotherapy and nutritional support issues that are not well known to pediatric cardiologists. The simulation course is aimed at teaching the skills of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, therapy of acute heart failure.
Practice
During training, residents have the opportunity to practice on the clinical base of the department in the pediatric ward with a cardiopulmonological profile on the basis of the State Budgetary Healthcare Institution of the city of Moscow Children’s Clinical Hospital of Infectious Diseases №6 the Moscow City Health Department.
Career
The demand for pediatric cardiologists is growing in both primary and inpatient care. A graduate of residency can be employed by a pediatric cardiologist, the head of pediatric cardiology, a doctor of the admission department (in a specialized hospital or in the corresponding specialized structural unit).
