Profession

An endoscopist is akin to a photographer. His professional career is working with optics. At this stage in the development of modern medicine, endoscopic treatment methods are becoming the most preferred in many areas of medicine: gastroenterology, pulmonology, urology, gynecology, otorhinolaryngology, proctology, cardiology, neuro and vascular surgery, oncology.
The history of endoscopy as a separate area of medical activity began in the 30s of the twentieth century, when intragastric photography began, and later, in the middle of the twentieth century, a flexible gastroscope was invented. At the end of the 20th century, digital technologies penetrated endoscopy. This greatly simplified the diagnosis and made it possible to perform operations using video endoscopy.

Educational Process

While studying at the intern, future specialists get acquainted with diseases that can be identified during endoscopic examination, endoscopic methods for verifying the diagnosis, techniques for conducting endoscopic examinations and treating various diseases using interventional endoscopy.

Practice

Training takes place both in an outpatient clinic, and in planned and emergency care hospitals. Clinical bases: MC RUDN, Ermishantsev City Clinical Hospital, FNCs FMBA of Russia, Skobelkin State Scientific Center of Laser Medicine, Khimki Central Clinical Hospital.

Career

The place of work directly depends on the direction chosen by the specialist. It is possible to get a position in state medical institutions — hospitals or clinics in the departments of pulmonology, oncology, gastroenterology, surgery. Specialists are in demand in dispensaries, sanatoriums, as well as health centers at some agro-industrial enterprises. Endoscopist jobs are also open in private clinics.
