Profession
The area of professional activity of a master's degree graduate in the field of "Mathematics" is education and science, including scientific research and mathematical modeling in the field of information technologies, software development and testing, creation and support of information and communication systems and databases. The success of professional activity in these areas is based on the elegance of mathematical models, the power of modern computer systems and the effectiveness of the latest information technologies. Graduates can engage in research activities, are able to solve problems of fundamental and applied mathematics, improve and implement new mathematical methods for solving applied problems, build and analyze mathematical models in modern science, technology, economics and management, use knowledge in the field of mathematics in the implementation of pedagogical activities.
Educational Process
The master's program is aimed at preparing specialists in the field of fundamental and applied mathematics, mathematical modeling, and mathematical economics. The program aims to develop in future specialists modern knowledge in the field of solving theoretical and applied problems, and to instill in students a penchant for research activities. The mandatory part of the program includes fundamental training in mathematics, study of modern mathematical methods and active research work. The presence in the program of several blocks of disciplines of the student’s choice allows you to determine for yourself the most attractive areas of professional activity. These disciplines cover a wide range of modern branches of fundamental and applied mathematics and allow the student to choose an individual learning trajectory that meets his/her wishes and needs. The three-semester course “Computer Technologies in Science and Education” provides serious and in-depth knowledge of computer science and programming. Considerable time is allocated to the student’s research activities and preparation of his final work: in fact, the entire second year is aimed at scientific research and writing a master’s thesis.
Practice
Pedagogical and research practices are real opportunities for students to try themselves as teachers of mathematics and computer science and researchers. The practices provided for by the curriculum are carried out on the basis of the Scientific Center for Nonlinear Problems of Mathematical Physics of the Mathematical institute. The Mathematical institute works closely with the Lomonosov Moscow State University, the Steklov Mathematical Institute of RAS, the Dorodnitsyn Computing Center of RAS, by ITFB Group. Master classes are held annually for students by leading experts and representatives of employers in real sectors of the economy, Russian and foreign scientists from leading universities and research centers. There is an all-Moscow scientific seminar on differential and functional-differential equations, in which major Russian and foreign mathematicians, teachers, students, graduate students take part.
Career
The acquired knowledge and practical skills allow graduates to work in large scientific and research centers. Graduates are in demand in the aviation and space industries, in the field of education. In addition, many of them work in the financial sector: in banks, major insurance companies, investment funds. Examples of professions: a researcher at a research institute; a programmer in IT enterprises and departments of commercial organizations; a financial analyst and application programmer in financial departments of government and commercial organizations; a teacher at a higher education institution. There is an opportunity to continue postgraduate studies in groups of scientific specialties 1.1. Mathematics and Mechanics, 1.2. Computer Science and Information Science.
