Biosecurity and Plants’ Quarantine

Profession

Biosafety and plant quarantine involves the possession of professional competencies, including knowledge and skills in the development and implementation of measures in the field of biosafety and plant quarantine, including a set of government measures to prevent the penetration and spread of dangerous pests, diseases and weeds of agricultural crops. Plant quarantine is aimed at protecting the country's plant resources, being one of the aspects of biological safety – the preservation by living organisms of their biological essence, biological qualities, system-forming connections and characteristics, preventing large-scale loss of biological integrity as a result of the introduction of alien forms into the established ecosystem; the introduction of alien viral or transgenic genes or prions; bacterial pollution; pollution of natural resources (water, soil).

Educational Process

The training is aimed at the formation of universal, general professional and professional competencies in accordance with the requirements in the field of training 05.04.06 Ecology and environmental management.
Leading employees of the RUDN, FGBI "VNIIKR" and other organizations have been invited to give lectures on special disciplines. Practical training of master's degree students will be carried out on the basis of FGBI VNIIKR, which has high-tech modern equipment and collections of organisms.

Practice

Students undergo practical training on the basis of the All-Russian Plant Quarantine Center (FGBI "VNIIKR") and its branches; Rosselkhoznadzor institutions and other institutions and enterprises of the real sector of the economy.

Career

Ensuring the country's food security depends on highly qualified personnel in the field of quarantine and biosafety. The educational program is focused primarily on training personnel for the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Control, as well as organizations and institutions engaged in activities in the field of biosafety and plant quarantine.
