Romance languages are a group of languages and dialects that date back to Latin as a common ancestor. The very name “Romance” comes from the Latin word Romanus (Roman). Romance philology is a science that studies Romance languages: their origin, evolution, classification, etc. All linguists need to get acquainted with Romance philology as part of Language studies.
Romance languages are spoken in a large number of countries in Europe, North, Central and South America, Asia and Africa. They function as official languages for communication, culture and education alongside with local languages. More than 700 million people communicate in different dialects of Romance languages.
Highly qualified professionals who study Romance philology and Romance dialectology are unique researchers in linguistics field. Moreover, they are experts in culture and traditions of people that speak Romance languages. The final stage of PhD studies in this profile consists of passing candidacy examinations and successful defense of the scientific qualifying paper (dissertation) in candidacy for a PhD degree in philological sciences.

The key disciplines are the following: “Languages of the foreign countries (Romance languages): “Historical aspects in evolution of Romance languages dialects”, “History and philosophy of science”, “Foreign language”, “Pedagogy of higher education”, “Methodology of scientific research”, “Information databases for scientific research and publication”.
Practical sessions are often conducted in the form of webinars, linguistic games, training discussions, practical research and experiments, research practices, round tables, decision-making games.
Practice
Teaching practice is a key and compulsory component of the learning process within the frame of this PhD program. During the two years of studies PhD students master the skills of independent pedagogical activity in the professional field on the basis of selection of the content of classes in accordance with modern requirements; updating and stimulating a creative approach to conducting classes; taking into account the scientific interests of postgraduate students.

Normally highly qualified Romance philologists speak several foreign languages which opens many the possibilities for professional self-realization.
