Profession

Pathological anatomy is a scientific and applied discipline that studies pathological processes and diseases with the help of macroscopic and microscopic studies of changes that occur in the cells and tissues of the body, organs and organ systems. At present, along with the microscopic method of research, an immunohistochemical method of research, which allows diagnosing pathological conditions at the molecular level, is increasingly being used in both scientific and practical activities. This method of microscopic examination of tissues, providing the most specific identification of the desired substances in them, which is especially important for early diagnosis of tumor processes, which allows you to start timely and adequate treatment of patients.
Learning of these threads will prepare a specialist who is able to engage in clinical, pedagogical and scientific activities, including solving theoretical and applied problems for practical public health. As a result of training with a pathologist, the following competencies will be formed: the ability to critically analyze and evaluate modern scientific achievements in solving research and practical problems, including interdisciplinary fields; willingness to participate in the work of Russian and international research teams using modern research methods and information and communication technologies.

Educational Process

Postgraduate studies in the Pathological Anatomy profile last 3 years with internal study mode and 4 years with correspondence. The training is organized and conducted by a supervisor among the professors (associate professors) of the department.
During the training, the theoretical, methodological foundations necessary for the scientific, pedagogical and professional activities of a graduate student are mastered and include: attending lectures, participating in classroom studies, independent work, preparing a lecture, analytical note, scientific report, publications that ultimate in a dissertation. At the end of graduate school, final state certification is provided, the result of which is a state-issued document.
After preparing a dissertation, it can be submitted for defense to the dissertation council in candidacy for a degree of candidate / doctor of sciences (PhD).

Practice

Graduate students at the department are trained in the theory and practice of experimental work on biopsy material.
Graduate students are given the opportunity to learn how to work on the instruments and equipment available at the Department of Pathological Anatomy and conduct independent research on the developed programs in accordance with the interests of the graduate student and the chosen research topic.
The postgraduate student is concedes the right to conduct classes with students, applying in practice the knowledge and technology acquired during postgraduate studies.
The graduate student is given access to the information resources available at the institution, including national and international databases.
The graduate student studies up the modern methods of statistical processing of the results. Based on the materials of scientific research, a graduate student led by experienced leaders summarizes the data and prepares scientific publications in specialized scientific journals and participates in scientific conferences at the national and international levels. Testing of the results of an independent scientific research by a graduate student is also carried out during his participation in specialized scientific events (conferences, seminars, round tables, etc.) and academic mobility programs.

Career

The career growth stages of the graduate student of the Department of Pathological Anatomy cover the following qualification categories:
— In the field of scientific activity: candidate of sciences, doctor of sciences, corresponding member, full member of the relevant academies of sciences, member of national and international academies of sciences. During postgraduate studies, it is possible to receive presidential and government scholarships and grants from various national and international funds. Registration of national and international patents.
— In the field of teaching: assistant, teacher, senior lecturer, associate professor, professor of the department, head of the department.
Subject to successful work and achievement of important results, there is a practice of obtaining honorary titles, prizes and awards at the national and international level.
