Profession
Pathological physiology is an experimental science, which is a natural research discipline. Pathological physiology studies mechanisms of pathogenesis of contemporary diseases, general laws of morphological, functional and metabolic changes in living matter due to the action of pathogenic factors of various nature, scientific problems of interdisciplinary nature; study of pathological processes in vitro, in vivo and in silico, ability to manage these processes using various medication and non-medication methods at molecular, cellular, tissue, organ, systemic, organism and population levels, including the development of theoretical foundations for the prevention of contemporary diseases, methods and techniques aimed at protecting public health.
Studying these disciplines will prepare a specialist who is able to engage in both pedagogical and scientific activities, including solving theoretical and applied problems for practical public health. As a result of training a specialist-pathophysiologist, the following competencies will be formed: the ability to critically analyze and evaluate modern scientific achievements in solving research and practical problems, including in interdisciplinary fields; willingness to participate in research activities of Russian and international research teams using modern research methods, information and communication technologies.
Educational Process
PhD student study in Pathological physiology lasts 3 years with full-time education and 4 years with extramural studies. The training is organized and conducted by a supervisor from among the professors (associate professors) of the Department. During the training, theoretical, methodological foundations necessary for scientific, pedagogical and professional activities of PhD students are mastered and include: attending lectures, classes, independent work, preparing lectures, analytical notes, scientific reports, publications, which are followed by preparing a thesis. At the end of PhD program, final state certification is provided. The result is a state-issued document.
Practice
PhD students are trained in the theory and practice of experimental work on animals, methods of performing non-invasive functional research methods used in clinic.
Graduate students are given the opportunity to learn how to work with instruments and equipment, which the Department of General Pathology and Pathological Physiology named after V.A. Frolov posses> They also conduct independent research on the developed programs in accordance with their interests and the chosen research topic.
A PhD student is given the right to conduct classes with students, applying the knowledge and technology acquired in other departments (philosophy, psychology, etc.) in practice.
A PhD student is given access to the information resources available at the institution, including national and international databases.
PhD students master modern methods of statistical processing of their results. Based on the materials of scientific research, a graduate student supervised by their experienced colleagues summarize the data and prepare scientific publications in specialized scientific journals and participate in scientific conferences at the national and international levels. Approbation of the results of an independent scientific research by a graduate student is also carried out during his participation in specialized scientific events (conferences, seminars, round tables, etc.) and academic mobility programs.
Career
Stages of career growth of a PhD student of V.A. Frolov Department of General Pathology and Pathological Physiology covers the following qualification categories:
— In the field of scientific activity: PhD, DSc, Corresponding member, Full member of the relevant academies of sciences, member of national and international academies of sciences. During PhD program studies, it is possible to receive presidential and government scholarships and grants from various national and international funds. Registration of national and international patents.
— In the field of teaching: assistant, teacher, senior lecturer, associate professor, professor of the department, head of the department.
In case of successful work and achieving important results, there is a practice of obtaining honorary titles, prizes and awards at the national and international levels.
