Profession
Radiophysics is a special chapter of physics with its wave method of solving fundamental and applied problems. The area of expertise of the graduates, who have completed the postgraduate course in “Physics and Astronomy”, is education and science including the scientific research of various physical systems and their functioning processes. Physicists are investigating the nature surrounding human beings, physical bodies and physical phenomena. They work on a broad variety of problems: from subatomic particles to the Universe behavior. Physical phenomena research offers an opportunity of discovering general laws, describing fundamental properties of the surrounding world.
Educational Process
The obligatory part of the program includes fundamental training in physics, mathematics and computer science, and active research work. Special disciplines of the program provide high-quality theoretical and practical training of students in combination with the conduct of scientific research.
During the training program, students study the following disciplines:
Foreign language
History and philosophy of science
Research methodology
Priority areas for the development of physical sciences
Methods of teaching in high school
Considerable time is devoted to the research work of a graduate student, work in a team of researchers and to prepare a dissertation. The entire educational process and scientific research are carried out in multimedia classrooms and research laboratories and centers of the Institute of Physical Research and Technology, as well as in computer classes equipped with modern equipment and software for conducting computational experiments.
Practice
Pedagogical and research practices are real opportunities for students to test themselves as teachers and research physicists. The practices envisaged by the curriculum are carried out on the basis of scientific laboratories of the Institute of Physical Research and Technology of RUDN University, which has close ties with the Kurchatov Institute National Research Center, which is the leading scientific institution in Russia on the problems of controlled thermonuclear fusion, nano- and convergent technologies.
Students also have the opportunity to practice in the laboratories of the Institute of Physical Problems, Russian Academy of Sciences. P.L. Kapitsa and at the Institute of General Physics RAS. A.M. Prokhorov.
Career
A graduate of a postgraduate course in Physics and Astronomy can apply the knowledge gained in organizations related to solving physical problems, in educational organizations at various levels — general education, higher and professional education. Physicists teach in schools and higher education institutions, work in research institutes and centers, in joint ventures and in representative offices of foreign firms related to the use, maintenance and sale of physical devices. Many of them are in demand in research centers of large companies, both domestic and foreign, where the application of physical research methods and technologies is required — engineering-physical, biophysical, chemical-physical, medical-physical, and environmental.
Within the framework of the acquired competencies and qualifications, graduates can perform work in other fields and areas of professional activity.
