Postgraduate programme 46.06.01 “Historical Sciences and Archeology” in Specialty 07.00.02 “Russian History” is aimed at training scientific and academic staff of the highest qualification for science, education, culture, international activities: researchers, teaching researchers who are able to carry out scientific and research activities in history, foreign policy and teaching activities under educational programmes of higher education taking into account modern requirements, as well as exclusive specialists for management structures and analytical and expert centres, business sector and media (including electronic ones).
As a result of an in-depth study of the theoretical and methodological foundations of historical science, graduates of the postgraduate programme acquire the skills of independent research, creative, international and teaching activities; ability to prepare and analyze various texts, use information retrieval systems; knowledge of a foreign language, including for professional activities and intercommunication networking.
Mastering the postgraduate programme in Russian History will allow graduates to become highly professional, nationally oriented specialists, able to meet the challenges of the time aimed at constantly improving their professional level, able not only to conduct research and teaching activities, but also to fulfil the mission of an international humanities scholar, who is ready to formulate and uphold the values ​​of freedom and dignity of the individual, friendship of peoples, interaction of cultures, cooperation of states.
Teaching internships and scientific research, language and specialized internships play an important role in applying theoretical knowledge in practice and forming skills. Postgraduate students in history are actively engaged in research work, participate in international scientific and scientific and practical conferences, publish their works in various collections and journals, including the RUDN Bulletin and editions indexed by the Scopus, WoS, RSCI scientific citation databases.
When mastering the programme, postgraduate students conduct independent original scientific research and prepare the text of their PhD thesis for defense by the end of their studies.

The postgraduate programme includes four blocks: educational disciplines, internships, scientific research, State Final Certification.


Practice

In the course of mastering the programme, graduate students undergo their teaching internship under the guidance of a supervisor at a RUDN University specialized unit (department). Teaching internships are aimed at obtaining professional skills and professional experience by postgraduate students, as well as preparing for teaching.

The area of professional activity of graduates who have mastered the postgraduate programme includes solving professional problems in educational institutions of higher education, specialized academic institutions and other research institutions; archives, museums and other organizations and cultural institutions; expert and analytical centres, public and state organizations of information and analytical profile; state administration and local self-government bodies, as well as in public, socio-political and creative organizations.
History of Countries of the World and International Relations is one of the most demanded fundamental specialties in humanities. A graduate of the postgraduate programme can not only work in academic science, education system (be a scientist, university teacher), diplomatic sphere, but also carry out the activities of an expert, analyst, journalist, international observer, administrator, manager, specialist in interstate and intercultural interaction, and also a specialist in the tourism sector, employee of cultural institutions (archives, museums, exhibitions, studios, etc.). Such diversity is due to the universality of historical education, which combines fundamental knowledge and skills with the practice of their implementation in various fields of activity. A historian is a creative profession based on accurate knowledge of facts, ability to find, verify, systematize, analyze, comment, present conclusions in a well-argued manner and use them to solve a variety of theoretical (research, expert) and applied (diplomatic, managerial, cultural, educational, educational) tasks.
Postgraduate students who have mastered the programme in Historical Sciences and Archeology in the specialty “Russian History” can be in demand in administrative institutions of various levels, party-political and public organizations. They may be of interest to the media, as well as institutions which deal with intercultural interaction, international relations and tourism development.
