Profession
The program is aimed at training specialists in the field of theoretical physics, including in the field of field theory, gravity and cosmology, particle physics, statistical and quantum physics, who have reached the professional level necessary for conducting scientific work, capable of successfully and timely completing the dissertation research for the scientific PhD in Physics and Mathematics.
Educational Process
The educational process includes lectures, a large amount of practical training on the basis of the Faculty of Physical, Mathematical and Natural Sciences of the RUDN University, participation in scientific seminars, the speakers of which are not only graduate students and students, but also international scientists, academicians of the Russian Academy of Sciences, scientists from various countries (USA, Germany, England, France, Italy, etc.). Preparation of the research work of a graduate student is carried out using powerful computing equipment under the guidance of leading specialists — doctors and candidates of sciences, as well as heads of research centers and laboratories.
Specialized disciplines:
— Condensed matter physics
— Physics of nonlinear processes and phenomena
— Quantum field theory
Research Areas:
— Classical fields in the theory of gravity and cosmology
— Nonlinear models in field theory and theory of magnets: spin and magnetic
excitation of graphene, carbon nanotubes and fullerenes
— Statistical physics and quantum thermodynamics: an outlet in nanotechnology and computing
— Nonlinear effects in the theory of filtration: flows in porous media.
Practice
Pedagogical and research practices are real opportunities for students to test themselves as teachers and research physicists. The practices envisaged by the curriculum are carried out on the basis of scientific laboratories of the Institute of Physical Research and Technology of RUDN University, which has close ties with the Kurchatov Institute National Research Center, which is the leading scientific institution in Russia on the problems of controlled thermonuclear fusion, nano- and convergent technologies.
Students also have the opportunity to practice in the laboratories of the Institute of Physical Problems, Russian Academy of Sciences. P.L. Kapitsa and at the Institute of General Physics RAS. A.M. Prokhorov, in organizations of the Russian Academy of Sciences: IOFAN, IKI, MIRAN and in Russian universities: MEPhI, MIPT, RUDN University, Moscow State University.
Career
“Physics and Astronomy” postgraduates will be able to apply their knowledge in solving physical problems, in educational institutions of a different level – general, higher and vocational education. Physicists are teaching in schools and higher education institutions, work in research institutes and centers, joint ventures and offices of international companies associated with exploitation, support and implementation of physical devices. Many physicists are in demand in research departments of large companies – local and international, also, where physical methods of research and technologies are needed – engineering, biophysical, chemo-physical, medico-physical, environmental organizations.
Graduates are also capable of working in other fields within their professional competences and qualifications.
