World-class discoveries

For the first time in Russia, institute researchers developed a method for obtaining phytosomes from quercetin and soybean seed phospholipids with antioxidant properties.

International Recognition of a Textbook

In 2018, the institute’s staff received a gold medal at the 38th Paris Book Fair LIVRE PARIS for a textbook for students: “Laboratory Practicum on Working with the NANOРОНОХ Particle Size Analyzer.”

A Forge of Inventions

Between 2016 and 2024, institute employees developed and registered 13 inventions and utility models, 4 certificates of state registration for computer software, and 7 databases.

Advances in Disease Diagnostics

A metabolomic panel is successfully used to identify and quantify oxylipins in biological fluids. Combined with other data, it helps determine the molecular mechanisms behind the onset and development of various socially significant inflammation-related diseases, including several types of cancer, as well as detect marker compounds suitable for early diagnostics.

Full-Cycle Drug Development — from A to Z

The institute carries out full-cycle research projects in drug development — from synthesizing pharmaceutical substances to registering the finished medicinal product. Every stage is monitored by a quality assurance system. In addition to pharmaceutical development, the institute serves as a licensed GMP training and production facility for manufacturing medicinal products, including orphan drugs. It also has a testing laboratory accredited within the National Accreditation System in compliance with GOST 17025–2019.

About the Institute

The Institute of Pharmacy and Biotechnology is a subdivision of RUDN University, carrying out educational programs at the master's and postgraduate levels, as well as continuing professional education. It also conducts comprehensive research in developing and transferring innovative pharmaceutical technologies, assessing drug quality at all stages of the life cycle, and performing metabolomic studies of objects of various origins.

Within the institute’s training and production facility, which has a D-class cleanroom, meets GMP requirements, and holds a license from the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation for the manufacture of medicinal products, the production of pharmaceuticals is carried out. In addition, the accredited testing laboratory conducts quality control testing of medicinal products and pharmaceutical substances under the Federal Service for Accreditation.

To support the institute’s key activities, the educational, research, and expert laboratories are equipped with more than 300 units of modern analytical, testing, and technological equipment.

The institute employs over 60 staff members, including 4 Doctors of Science and 18 Candidates of Science, 2 Honored Workers of Science and Education of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, 1 Honored Inventor of the Russian Federation, and 1 World Health Organization (WHO) expert.

Students enrolled in educational programs receive a unique opportunity to apply their knowledge in practice within the institute’s own production facility, gaining practical skills essential for highly qualified professionals in pharmacy and biotechnology.
