The school for prospective master students «International UN-Model «U-Model» 2020»

Under the implementation of the major Project of Competitiveness Enhancement (Program “5-100”, Project A40) of the leading Russian universities in the list of the world’s leading researching- and educational centers, the School for prospective master students “International UN-Model “U-Model” 2020” will be held on the faculty of humanitarian and social sciences of the RUDN University on March 16-18th.

The goals and objectives of this event are the following: formation of professional skills for a specialist in international relations and diplomacy including the analysis and development of legal documents, mastering business and speech etiquette, reasoned advocacy of their opinions and the search for optimal solutions while respecting the interests of the parties, etc.

The UN Model combines a long-term research project and is a comprehensive multi-functional intellectual role-playing game. This year the concept of sustainable development was identified as a practical topic for the Model. The activities of the main bodies of the UN Model within the school for admission to the master's program of RUDN will be represented by the following working committees:

• Security Council (the section will be conducted in English);
• General Assembly (working language of the plenary meetings – Russian);
• Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (working language – Arabic);
• World Health Assembly (working language is Spanish);
• Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1718 (DPRK) (in Chinese) and United Nations Human Rights Council (the working language of the section is French).

Holding the events of such content significantly enhances the prestige of the university. In the course of conducting a school for entering the master's program at RUDN, potential applicants will be able to get a closer look at the educational process of the university - for this purpose, the presentation of the master programs of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is scheduled; in the framework of the UN Model, students will gain invaluable experience of a team intellectual game, which will undoubtedly be useful to them in the future. The UN World Model Movement is coordinated and encouraged personally by the UN Secretary-General, since it is designed to assist the UN in developing new ways to solve global problems facing humanity.

Traditionally, the UN Model is held for three days. Having pre-divided into sections (committees), students reproduce the roles of delegates representing their chosen countries in the UN bodies determined by the organizing committee of the event. The model is carried out according to the rules of the UN procedure in one or more official UN languages. At the end of the game, each model committee presents a resolution on the agenda items discussed in the committee. At the same time such a document fully corresponds to the original produced by the body being modeled and represents the students' point of view on the way to solving global problems.

Students and post-graduate students of the Department of Theory and History of International Relations of the RUDN University, students of the Diplomatic Academy, MGIMO-University of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Lomonosov Moscow State University, etc., who will also present the master's program of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the RUDN University.
