A solemn event dedicated to Russian Diplomatic Worker’s Day was held at RUDN University on February, 14 at the initiative of the Faculty of Humanitarian and Social Sciences’ Department of Theory and History of International Relations. The "Graduates of RUDN University in diplomatic service" round table event which took place at the Rector's Hall brought together more than 60 graduates of Peoples’ Friendship University – Russian and foreign diplomats, as well as teachers of international relations studies. At the opening ceremony O.V. Andreeva, Vice-Rector for International Relations, read a welcoming speech of V.M. Filippov, RUDN University’s Rector, academician of the Russian Academy of Education, in which he recognized the historical merits of Russian diplomacy, its contribution to the reaching and maintaining of the national interests and international stability. RUDN University makes a feasible contribution to the training and education of diplomats. And it is the spirit of Peoples’ Friendship University, the spirit of friendship that promotes the implementation of a complicated mission of the ambassador, brings diplomatic workers – RUDN University graduates – closer together. V.V. Shanin, Chief Adviser at the Russian Foreign Ministry, warmly noted that within the RUDN University walls he had seen a lot of familiar faces that he sees on a daily basis in the building of the Russian Foreign Ministry. Diplomatic Academy and Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) are universities within the jurisdiction of the Russian Foreign Ministry, but RUDN University’s level of training of diplomats is rightfully considered equal to the ones found in these universities. T.A. Zakaurtseva, professor and First Vice-Rector of the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Foreign Ministry, transmitted greetings from Y.P. Bazhanov, professor and Rector of the Academy. Y.P. Korchagin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia in Spain, RUDN University graduate in 1977 (Faculty of History and Philology), in his pre-recorded video address congratulated the round table participants on the occasion and pointed out that the knowledge acquired at the university had helped him in his diplomatic career, and that it was RUDN University where a lot of friends had been made and that strengthened their love for our vast homeland. V.V. Nikiforov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia in the Republic of Mauritius, RUDN University graduate in 1972 (Faculty of Science), in his pre-recorded video address emphasized that RUDN University, in preparing professionals for many countries of the world, actually leads a diplomatic activity. M.O. Yemelyantseva, employee at the Office of the President of the Russian Federation for foreign policy, graduate of the Faculty of Humanitarian and Social Sciences in 2004, in her speech said that it was the university that had helped her to become a professional, and that during the diplomatic work, she experienced firsthand how profound the knowledge and skills acquired at the university were. A.I. Khomenko, Head of the Office for Compatriot Affairs and Public Diplomacy of Russian Cooperation (Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States, compatriots living abroad and international humanitarian cooperation affairs), graduate of the RUDN University Faculty of History and Philology in 1986, congratulated all the participants on Russian Diplomatic Worker’s Day, noting the unique ability of RUDN University, which had trained tens of thousands of public diplomats. During a teleconference with Jordan, V.I. Zaichikov, Head of the Russian Cultural Center in Jordan (in the city of Amman), graduate of the Faculty of Humanitarian and Social Sciences in 2004, noted that it was studying at the Peoples’ Friendship University, the work of the brilliant teaching staff, strong Department of Arabic studies that contributed to the fact that his career is connected with the Arab East. Congratulations of tens of the university’s graduates were filled with sincere pride in their Alma Mater. Special interest of the participants was raised by greetings from RUDN University graduates, who are currently in diplomatic service abroad. Greetings were received from V.V. Philipp – The Embassy of Russia in Moldova, N.A. Shkolyar – The Embassy of Russia in Mexico, S.B. Deryushev – The Embassy of Russia in Chad, M.O. Rubin and Y.V. Yakovleva – The Embassy of Russia in Egypt, T.S. Pechatkin – The Embassy of Russia in Syria, I.B. Matveev – The Embassy of Russia in Germany, A.V. Kuvshinov – The Embassy of Russia in Israel. They believe that they all had the rare opportunity to acquire an excellent experience of living in a multicultural environment, which laid the ground for their present work.
