The International Scientific-practical conference “Linguistics of 21 century: contacts and conflicts of civilizations” is to be held in RUDN University on 27-28 of October.
Dynamism of transforming meanings, mobility, contacts expansion, variation in the representation of the norm are typical for the communicative space of the beginning of the 21 century.
Modern linguistics needs new cognition and description tools, in the adaptation of the existing epistemological and methodological models to modern conditions.
Key concepts of the conference “Linguistics of 21 century: contacts and conflicts of civilizations” are language, space, boarders. Languages and cultures contacts will be considered through the concept of territory in following aspects:
- typology of minority languages in the European space;
- conflict zones of linguistic consciousness
- ethno-cultural components in the modern urban environment;
- media discourse space
Some of the issues of the conference are the role of the language as a specific semiotic code and sociocultural phenomenon; overcoming the multiplicity of meanings (which is typical for our time) in the course of social and cultural dialogue; the contradiction between the trend towards globalization and the rise of nationalism - a process in which language has a leading role, and others.
