RUDN opens 3 scientific institutes and 8 research centers for the development of strategic assets in the field of Mathematics and Chemistry

«The University has passed the developmental stages as an educational, international and classical institution, and today we are talking about the research type of university», noted RUDN Rector Vladimir Filippov on February 8 at the press conference «RUDN – Discover the world at one university».

«The University has passed the developmental stages as an educational, international and classical institution, and today we are talking about the research type of university», noted RUDN Rector Vladimir Filippov on February 8 at the press conference «RUDN – Discover the world at one university».

In connection with the change of positioning, RUDN is also changing the system of scientific activity organization. In particular, in 2016, three new scientific instituteswere opened: the Institute for Applied Mathematics and Telecommunications, the S. Nikolsky Mathematical Institute and the Joint Institute for Chemical Research.

The scope of the Institute for Applied Mathematics and Telecommunications includes the development of new mobile communication technologies, the software to improve the capacity of data transmission channels.

The S. Nikolsky Mathematical Instituteconducts research in the field of functional analysis; the theory of functional spaces, ordinary differential equations; differential equations with partial derivatives; nonlinear analysis; spectral theory of differential operators.

The Joint Institute for Chemical Research analyzes the synthesis of new drugs for the treatment of oncological and neuropsychiatric diseases; performs computer modeling of the biological activity of molecules, establishes the structure and properties of substances, determines their initial biological activity; as well as patents the tested methods of synthesis and biological activity.

Besides, 8 research centers/laboratories were created in the past year to develop strategic assets in the field of Mathematics and Chemistry:

- Center for molecular design and synthesis of innovative compounds for medicine:

- Center for modeling high-tech systems and infocommunications:

- Сenter for mathematical modeling in interdisciplinary studies;

- Center for biotechnological and bioinformatics research in medicine;

- Laboratory for studying innovative drug delivery methods;

- Laboratory for studying pathogenesis and clinics of socially important infectious and parasitic diseases;

- Metabolomics laboratory;

The research is carried out under the supervision of the leading Russian and foreign scientists. As the head of the Office of RUDN Science and Innovation Policy Dmitry Zhukov notes, «Our schools have traditionally been strong. Research on a new level, creation of sought-after scientific products, development and implementation of technology are the priorities for the near future».
