RUDN University has a new Rector and President
RUDN University is a major league university with strong traditions, a special mission and strong ambitions. My words of gratitude go to Vladimir Mikhailovich, who led the staff of the university, which is truly unique for the entire world system of higher education, for more than 20 years.
The Minister of Higher Education and Science of the Russian Federation Valery Falkov signed two orders: on the appointment of Oleg Yastrebov as new Rector of the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia and on the confirmation of appointment of Vladimir Filippov as President of the University. The candidacy of Oleg Alexandrovich was approved by the Supervisory Board of RUDN University in February 2020, while the Academic Board of the University unanimously voted for the candidacy of the President.
Today at the meeting of the Academic Board of the University, the Minister introduced a new Rector to the RUDN University staff. He began his speech with words of gratitude to Vladimir Filippov.

My thanks to Vladimir Mikhailovich, who led the staff of the university, which is truly unique to the entire world system of higher education, for more than 20 years. It was thanks to Vladimir Mikhailovich that the bachelor-master system was introduced in Russia, allowing Russia to become part of the world community, our graduates to be internationally competitive, and our scientists to be included in global research projects. The double power of government due to synchronous work of the President and the Rector will dynamically accelerate the development of the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia,” said Valery Falkov, Minister of Higher Education and Science of the Russian Federation
Oleg Yastrebov - Doctor of Law, Doctor of Economics, author of 200 scientific publications and 3 monographs. Member of the Higher Qualification Collegium of Judges of the Russian Federation. Since 2014, he has headed the Law Institute of RUDN University. During this time, the minimum score of the Unified State Examination for state-funded places has increased from 240 to 299 points, financial indicators have increased 4 times, the number of international partners has increased from 20 to 130, including from the list of top 500 universities in the world. The last 3 years the Law Institute of RUDN University has been among the five best law schools in Russia. Advanced research has appeared in the field of forensic science, financial monitoring, competition law and space law.
At the meeting of the Academic Board the RUDN Rector presented a new team, which will continue the development course towards an internationally recognized research university and develop a new program until 2035.
Now RUDN University takes 392 place in the global QS ranking, which uses different indicators to assess leading universities. The university maintains a leading position in the field of internationalization, while in matters of international cooperation is an absolute role model. These and other results are the merit of the team of V.Filippov: “Thank you for appointing me President of my Alma Mater - I’ve been here 52 years, since I was 17. I thank all the teachers and staff who from June 15, 1993, from the first day of my appointment as Rector, ensured stable development of the RUDN University.”
Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia has become the best among Russian universities in the international ARWU (Shanghai Ranking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects) ranking in Agriculture. RUDN University entered this ranking for the first time and immediately found itself among 201-300 best. The university also shot up 100 positions in Mathematics.
According to the ranking of the best universities in the world QS World University Rankings 2022, RUDN University has risen by 9 positions and took the 317th place.
