RUDN University Master’s research on the Arctic and the Far East wins the young political scientists’ articles contest
Why participate in such competitions?
I have experience of participating in scientific competitions — for example, in the Lomonosov Moscow State University forum — but this is the first time I have become a winner. It was especially nice to tell my mom about this on the eve of the New Year — it made her very proud. It’s not only emotions, but also many advantages. Participation in scientific competitions develops the skills necessary for a career as a scientist — I want to do research professionally. My portfolio will soon have another reputable publication — the article was accepted by the Russian Political Science magazine without additional revision. I also had ideas for the “Politics Without Borders” student professional association, which I am a member of.
What is the winning article about?
This article is about Russia’s interests in the Arctic and the Far East. The work is based on the scientific ideas of leading political scientists, politicians and economists. It is believed that the progress in the development of this macro-region has slowed down. We have studied the causes and proposed solutions. In particular, we gave an analysis of new aspects of Eurasian integration.
What solutions are you offering?
Among the proposed scenarios for responding to regional and global challenges is the development of transport and logistics potential. It is also possible to combine the possibilities of Eurasian integration with the international Silk Road project, which was initiated by China and its partners. Regional understanding can be found through the protection of the interests of small peoples and openness in the field of scientific and environmental research in the Arctic.
How was the topic chosen?
I am a master student in the program “Political Problems of the Globalizing World”, so the topic is in the focus of my scientific interests. Many countries have priorities in the careful development of the Arctic, including Russia. At the same time, our country has huge opportunities, given the natural, energy and logistics potentials.
How did you hear about the competition?
I learned about the competition in the Telegram channel of the Department of Comparative Political Science. There were 20 themes and I happened to have the necessary materials. I wrote an article and showed it to my supervisor Daria Kazarinova. She gave me advice on how to finalize the text. We all made it on time, and a month later I saw my name among the winners.
What advice would you give to scholars in the humanities?
