A meeting with the participation of foreign students at the Russian Ministry of Education and Science

At a meeting on the work of the Association of International Students (AIS) in Russia, they discussed the new system of higher education, employment and scholarships.

“The Association of International Students makes a significant contribution to the promotion of Russian education abroad. Its activities contribute to deeper interaction both between foreign students and between the international services of universities. Such meetings make it possible to receive objective feedback from students on issues of concern to them, as well as to plan future steps in the further internationalization of Russian education,” said Dmitry Afanasiev, Deputy Head of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science.

Issa Shaabo, President of the Association of International Students made a report on the activities of the organization. He spoke about the association’s role in attracting foreign students to Russian universities. He also reported on the work to assist foreign students and graduates in the search for vacancies, internships and employment.

“Last year we won a grant in the All-Russian competition of youth projects and held the Inter-regional Forum of International Students of Russian Universities ‘Build Your Career’”. 500 foreign students from 65 Russian universities met at RUDN and discussed the current requirements of the Russian labor market.

Following the meeting at the Russian Ministry of Education and Science, it was decided to expand the practice of holding regional AIS webinars. This year we also plan to organize the annual forum “Russia made us friends”.

We were given the task of compiling a list of problematic issues in the organization of practices and internships for foreign students in various fields for their further solution. We plan to increase the number of educational events for the international services of universities on the topic of organizing work placements and internships, migration registration and other important issues in working with foreign students," said Issa Shaabo, President of the Association of International Students, tutor for educational work of RUDN University.

Foreign students — participants of the meeting — asked questions about scholarships and stipends. Dmitry Afanasiev drew attention to the fact that foreign students have the right to receive an increased state academic stipend, can participate in competitions for individual stipends, as well as stipends of the President of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Russian Federation.

Students were also interested in modeling the new Russian education system, updating the infrastructure of hostels, and allocating quotas from the Government of the Russian Federation for foreign students.
