A new round of cooperation between Russia and China: prospects for cooperation with leading universities in China discussed at RUDN

October 12, 2018, a delegation of representatives of 36 leading universities of China and representatives of the Ministry of Education of China headed by Ms. Shen Xuesong, Deputy Secretary General of the China Education Association for International Exchange, visited Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia.

Nur Kirabaev, First Vice Rector - Vice Rector for Research welcomed the Chinese colleagues, noting the many years of fruitful cooperation between RUDN and the leading universities of China.

During the visit, the Chinese side presented the experience of the university in the implementation of the cluster approach in international activities, the creation of specialized classes and centers of the Russian language and pre-university training, as well as open RUDN Olympiad. In addition, delegates learnt about current activities and opportunities for inter-university cooperation.

The head of the Chinese delegation, Ms. Shen Xuesong, deputy secretary general of the China Education Association for International Exchange, stressed that RUDN University was not accidentally chosen for the official visit to Russia because RUDN is important for developing and strengthening cooperation with leading universities and centers of higher education in China.

Each of the parties noted the long and fruitful cooperation between the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia and the Shandong University since 2003.

Shandong University is a long-time partner of RUDN. Over the years of cooperation on the basis of Shandong University, about 400 RUDN students have been trained in Chinese language programs. In turn, a large number of Chinese students interned at RUDN. Also an agreement on joint supervision of dissertation research was previously signed. Each year, students of RUDN Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences undergo language internships at Shandong University. The agreement on academic exchange of students became the basis for the development of inter-university cooperation, including through joint educational programs.

Since 2008, there have been 4 joint Master’s educational programs in such areas as “History”, “Political Science”, “Philosophy” and “Sociology”. In 2017, another joint dual-degree master program “Foreign Regional Studies” was opened.

During the talks training of specialists, conducting research projects and various educational activities, exchange of experience and information on educational and methodological work, as well as development of international cultural relations were discussed.

At the end of the official visit the Chinese delegation conducted a tour of the Educational and Scientific Innovation Mission Control Center, where the guests learnt about the Center and current activities of the RUDN Engineering Academy.

The visit further strengthened the relations between RUDN University and educational organizations of China and served as a new step in the development of cooperation.
