Journey into the world of economics: a summer school for RUDN students at the University of Zambia

While someone is on summer holidays, RUDN students of economics keep studying. They went to hot Zambia at the invitation of the Graduate School of Business of the University of Zambia for two weeks of the summer school “Russia-Zambia: Economic Opportunities and Prospects”.

On the first day, an informal student party was held to exchange the cultural traditions of Russia and Zambia.

Two busy weeks of interesting lectures and meetings with the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources of Zambia, the Minister of Commerce and Trade of Zambia, Advisor to the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Zambia, and the Director General of the Commission for Economic Empowerment of Citizens. Also, students studied trade and economic relations, investments, the development of trade between Russia and Zambia, as well as the use of trade and commerce to strengthen bilateral relations.

At the same time, professors of RUDN University also gave lectures, talking about the geo-economic potential and government measures to support foreign economic activity in the regions of Russia, the investment climate in Russia and bilateral trade between Russia and Zambia.

Russian and Zambian students got acquainted with the work of the Russian House in Zambia, visited the special economic zone of the city of Lusaka, and took part in the annual agricultural expo “Agricultural and Commercial Show”.

Two weeks flew by quickly, but the final turned to be very meaningful. The students defended a business plan for the export of goods and services of Russian or Zambian origin to foreign markets. They were divided into teams, working on ideas in between meetings and lectures. The result was evaluated by the Investment Agency of Zambia.

“From the very first days of the trip, you can feel the incredible atmosphere of Africa! Every day we explore something new and get fantastic emotions. Looking forward to new unforgettable adventures in Zambia!” — Maria Danyukova (“International Trade”, 1st — year master student).

“The capital of Zambia surprised with the pace of economic development. The country has a stable political system and economy, coupled with its colorfulness and friendliness of the local people, Zambia has every chance to be in the heart of everyone, attracting investments from all over the world along the way!” — Murinka Zakhar, (“International Economic Relations”, 4th — year student).

“This shared experience has opened our eyes to the enormous potential for cooperation and sparked hope for a future of mutual growth, prosperity and understanding,” — Dimba Mwenda (President of the University of Zambia Student Association).

“Attending the summer school gave us an opportunity to learn about each other’s culture, religion, education, politics and mentality. We are learning to grow together in a healthy and supportive environment. This gave us an opportunity to reach a much-needed understanding and gave birth to an international friendship!” — Dexter Mwinga (Student of the Graduate School of Business, University of Zambia).
