RUDN University develops projects for the improvement and landscaping of Astana

The capital of Kazakhstan hosted the “25th Anniversary of Astana: New Perspectives. New opportunities” Forum. RUDN Agrarian and Technological Institute (ATI) of signed a declaration on cooperation with the Mayor's office of Astana on the development of projects for the improvement and landscaping of the capital of Kazakhstan.

The parties agreed on the development and implementation of research projects in which RUDN University will play a key role as a center of competence and technology, interacting with Kazakh partners.

The declaration was signed by:

  • Elvira Dovletyarova, Director of RUDN ATI;
  • Elnar Bazyken, Head of the Center for Urban Studies of the Akimat (Mayor’s Office) of Astana;
  • Kanat Tireuov, Chairman of the Board, Rector of the Kazakh Agrotechnical Research University.

The forum brought together mayors and representatives of the administrations of the cities of Kazakhstan, Russia, the CIS countries and Europe, as well as well-known specialists in the field of urban studies, architects, landscape architects, sociologists and other scientists. They discussed topical issues and challenges of the dynamic development of megacities.

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev spoke at the plenary session of the opening ceremony of the Forum. He emphasized that the exchange of experience, cooperation and close interaction between the administration, the scientific community and residents are key indicators of the development of modern cities.

Director of RUDN ATI Elvira Dovletyarova was the key speaker of the plenary section “Urban planning focused on the future”. Elvira Anvarbekovna made a presentation “Landscape planning and management of urban green infrastructure for the sustainable development of the city”. She shared the experience of RUDN University in the field of research projects for the improvement and greening of cities, modeling and designing microclimate urban systems, taking into account social, cultural and other needs.

Elvira Dovletyarova spoke about the projects that the scientific laboratory “Smart Urban Nature” of RUDN ATI is successfully implementing in Moscow, Norilsk, St. Petersburg and Cherepovets. She also voiced proposals for the Administration of the city of Astana on the concept of improvement and greening of the capital of Kazakhstan.

“The forum is an excellent opportunity to present to the wide international public the projects in the field of urban planning, improvement and greening of cities that RUDN University team is working on. We are glad that the competences and experience of our university do not go unnoticed. Both Kazakh colleagues and we are interested in cooperation. The agreements reached in negotiations with the Mayor’s office of Astana will make it possible to implement interesting projects that will increase the comfort, health and quality of life of the city’s residents,” said Elvira Dovletyarova, Director of ATI.

July 3-5, RUDN University delegation headed by the Director of the Agrarian and Technological Institute visited Astana. In addition to participating in the Forum of City Mayors, the delegation held working meetings in the Akimat (Mayor’s office) of Astana and at partner universities: Kazakh Agrotechnical Research University named after S. Seifullin (KATU) and Eurasian National University named after L. Gumilyov.

 

As a result of negotiations and interactions of the working groups, two agreements were signed on the implementation of joint educational programs between RUDN and KATU: “Veterinary” specialist program and “Agricultural business” master program. Joint programs will start in 2024 — students will receive diplomas from two universities (RUDN and KATU).

 

A meeting of the organizing committee of the international conference “Food Quality Food Safety 2023”, which will take place in September in Astana, was held. RUDN University and KATU act as co-organizers and strategic partners.

Expanding Educational Cooperation: RUDN University Hosts BRICS Network University International Governing Board Meeting

The BRICS Network University International Governing Board is the main coordinating body of the educational consortium. Russia is chairing BRICS in 2024. The event took place in the run-up to the meeting of the Ministers of Education of the countries of the association. The meeting is to take place in Kazan on 11 June.
