Head and shoulders, knees and toes….. A second sports ground opens on RUDN campus

Head and shoulders, knees and toes….. A second sports ground opens on RUDN campus

What could be better than a good workout in the morning after which you deserve a nice breakfast? At the new sports ground, the rector of RUDN and a postgraduate student from Zambia found out who is stronger, while the director of the sports complex taught how to do pull-ups correctly, and the authors of this article met sports fans among students.

About 50 people gathered near Dorm No. 1 on RUDN campus. Students argued who would be the first to hit a punching bag or do a vertical row with as many as six plates. Soon Oleg Yastrebov, rector of RUDN University, joined the conversations:

“I exercise every day. I plan to come here from time to time,” Rector said.

Oleg Aleksandrovich, together with Chimuka Singuva, a postgraduate student of the Faculty of Economics from Zambia, cut the ribbon — the sports ground officially opened! Students went to test new machines. The rector did not stand aside: first he competed with Chimuka in lifting dumbbells, and then played a game of table tennis with Tatyana Lebedeva, director of RUDN sports complex.

“On the site there are exercise machines for all muscle groups. There are also machines for complex training — one machine can be used to do pull-ups or pump up your abs or biceps. If you have a bad hair day, hit the punching bag a couple of times and let off steam. You can also train in autumn and winter, the equipment is moisture- and frost-resistant,” said Tatyana Lebedeva.

A girl is carefully examining the multi-rod... Suddenly she takes her smartphone and scans a QR code with a link to video on the exercise machine. Now she knows how to use it and which muscles are pumped. It is almost a virtual trainer — even beginners can practice safely. There are 20 machines on 400 m2 — RUDN University students have already tried them out and share their impressions:

“The triceps row is my favorite exercise. I usually work out in the area next to Dorm No. 6, but now I’ll walk around the campus to the new site,” Mihimit Abba (Chad), Faculty of Economics, “Management”, 1st year.

The main feature of the new sports area is that it has more exercise equipment for girls than on the first site, which was opened near Dorm No. 5 last year.

“It’s close to the dorms, the equipment is diverse and easy to use — this is worth coming here for. I’m very pleased that the site is almost independent of the weather, you can work out here at any time of the year,” Arina Derbush (Russia), Academy of Engineering, “Power Engineering”, 2nd year.

“Such workout zones on campus mean accessible sport. You can train close to home and don’t need to buy a subscription to a fitness club,” Yata Hawa Forey (Sierra Leone), Institute of Medicine, “General Medicine”, 2nd year.

“I exercise three times a week. Exercise machines that are just around the corner motivate you to train more often,” Anastasia Tokareva, Institute of Medicine, “Dentistry”, 3rd year.
