Seminar “German and Russian Neo-Kantianism”
On 28 November at 15:00 p.m. (Moscow time)
An international scientific seminar “German and Russian Neo-Kantianism” will be held at RUDN University.
Topic: “Utopia and aesthetics of cultural history in S. Hessen and M. Bakhtin”.
Speaker: DR. Michał Mrugalski, Humboldt University Berlin, Germany.
Bakhtin’s transition to the sphere of aesthetics arose from his philosophical desire to find the key to overcoming the split between the world of unity (life) and the world of unity (culture). In other words, Bakhtin approaches the field of aesthetics to solve his philosophical problem, therefore aesthetics for Bakhtin is one of the subjects within a more general and broader philosophical concept. But although Bakhtin wants to reconcile these two worlds, which oppose each other, and sees the possibility of this overcoming not in the realm of one world, but in their connection, he found the path to this overcoming precisely in the only place of a specific individual.
Bakhtin’s emphasis on aesthetics is closely related to his emphasis on singularity. According to the scientist, aesthetics is an area of cultural unity where the unique uniqueness of a single life can be preserved. This becomes possible thanks to such features of aesthetics that it communicates with life and positively accepts concrete reality into its sphere in emotional and volitional tones. His transition to the field of aesthetics is based on this search for the possibility of bridging the gap between two worlds with aesthetics. For this reason, Bakhtin begins to deal with basic questions of aesthetics.
