“Cities should be not only comfortable and beautiful, but also healthy”: the director of the ATI RUDN University acted as a moderator at the Urban Health congress
The business program of the congress included dozens of panel discussions on the thematic areas of “Ecology”, “Health and Healthy Lifestyle”, “Infrastructure and Construction”, “Digitalization”, “Active Longevity”, at which more than 150 experts spoke. This is the largest event of its kind in Russia.
Participants in the panel discussion “Adaptive urban environment — public health in the context of climate change” discussed current environmental challenges facing city administrations around the world. In particular, they discussed the impact of climate change on the health of residents — for example, the heat waves that sweep across the world every summer.
“In healthy cities, the state of the environment does not harm people. It depends 50% on the environmental situation as a whole. Now many cities are taking measures to reduce the risk of illness among residents from anthropogenic factors — which we discussed in our section. We also discussed Moscow’s experience in developing a healthy city and the importance of cities being not only comfortable and beautiful, but also healthy,” Elvira Dovletyarova, director of ATI RUDN University.
In addition, the discussion participants talked about protecting citizens from dangerous natural phenomena — both existing and predicted. Thus, using the example of Moscow, Irina Ivashkina from the Moscow General Plan Institute spoke about existing global trends that are designed to reduce the carbon footprint of cities and cool spaces.
The panel discussion was attended by:
- Polina Zakharova, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Director of State Budgetary Institution “Mosekomonitoring”;
- Boris Revich, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Head of the Laboratory for Forecasting Environmental Quality and Population Health at the Institute of National Economic Forecasting of the Russian Academy of Sciences;
- Evgeniy Gasho, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Head of the Research Laboratory of Methodological Problems of Energy Saving, National Research University “MPEI”;
- Vladimir Kamenskikh, Deputy Director of the State Budgetary Institution “Moscow Social Centers”;
- Irina Ivashkina, head of the sector of information and analytical support for territorial planning of the State Autonomous Institution “Institute of General Plan of Moscow”;
- Praveen Chaudhary, Deputy Municipal Commissioner, Ahmedabad (India);
- Vladimir Kendrovski, technical specialist, WHO European Center for Environment and Health (Bonn, Germany).
