Profession

The industry of nanosystems and materials is one of the priority areas for the development of science, technology and engineering in the Russian Federation, as well as throughout the world. Nanotechnology is a way to create nanoscale structures that give materials and devices special properties that work with individual atoms and molecules. Nanotechnologies are applicable in all areas of human activity: : tools manufacturing, mechanical engineering, space technology, food industry, medicine, pharmaceuticals, construction, agriculture, biology, cybernetics, electronics, ecology, construction, auto and aircraft manufacturing. The profession of an engineer in the field of nanotechnology is associated with:
— production and research of materials and components of nano- and microsystem technology, the processes occurring in them;
— development of nanodiagnostics methods;
— designing instruments and devices based on nanostructures;
— the study of physical-mathematical and physical-chemical models of the processes of synthesis, diagnostics and functioning of materials and components of nano- and microsystem technology;
— drawing up algorithms for solving research and production problems related to the professional field.

Educational Process

This program is a double degree program. The first year students study at RUDN, the second year — at the Eurasian National University named after L. N. Gumilyov (Kazakhstan).
The interdisciplinary approach to education is aimed at training personnel for applied and fundamental research, at developing a wide range of knowledge and competencies of graduates in diagnostics, measurements, testing and modeling of nano- and micro-sized systems. In the process of learning, masters acquire skills of independent work in the field of development, design and optimization of products and technologies for various functional purposes, based on the integrated use of nanomaterials, nanotechnology processes and nanotechnological equipment.
The main advantages of the program include the following:
— systematic fundamental training in physics, chemistry, mechanics, electronics, together with mathematical training, is aimed at a comprehensive understanding of processes, taking into account nanoscale specifics;
— in the learning process, the quantum physical properties of surfaces and nanoscale films, technologies for recording and processing complex multidimensional signals are considered;
— information technologies, mathematical, semi-natural and full-scale modeling are used in the learning process, interactive lectures are held, and much attention is paid to the use of foreign languages for working with scientific and technical articles.
Classes are held using multimedia technologies, in the format of webinars, teleconferences.
Students study such disciplines as “Technology for the manufacture of devices for nano- and microsystem technology”, “Reliability of devices for nanoelectronic and microsystem technology”, “Quantum mechanics in nanosystems”, “Design of heterostructure lasers”, “Technology for deposition of thin films”.

Practice

Students are given the opportunity to undergo production and technological practices at the experimental, measuring and technological base of centers in the field of nanotechnology in Russia (Moscow) and Kazakhstan (Nur-Sultan).
In the process of learning, students take part in seminars, scientific conferences and forums, subject discussions of leading experts in the field of nanoindustry, communicate with potential employers, attend trainings on relevant topics, and undergo internships at foreign partner universities.
Educational practices and research work of students are carried out in the educational and scientific laboratories of the department equipped with modern equipment and software, as well as on the experimental, measuring and technological base of research centers in the field of nanoindustry and at industrial enterprises: Shvabe, Research Institute Pole” them. M.F. Stelmakh”, “NII NPO “LUCH””, “Niagara”, etc.

Career

As a result of mastering the program of two diplomas, graduates will be able to:
— to engage in fundamental and applied interdisciplinary research in the fields of physics, chemistry, mathematics and electronics;
— to design elements and devices of nano- and microsystem technology using standard application software packages;
— to develop methods for conducting research and measuring the parameters and characteristics of nanotechnology products and microsystem technology;
— to develop physical and mathematical models of the investigated physical processes in the field of nanotechnology and microsystem technology;
— to develop new materials;
— to conduct research on materials at the molecular and atomic level;
— to create materials, objects and systems with a given atomic structure;
— to develop technological processes for the manufacture of new materials and structures;
— to carry out diagnostics of existing nano- and microsystems;
— as part of the performers, to participate in the operation and maintenance of technological systems used in the production of nanomaterials and products based on them;
— to work with modern and high-precision measuring and diagnostic equipment;
— to prepare tasks for design solutions for the development of materials and components of nano- and microsystem technology;
— to develop technical specifications for the design of technological processes for the production of nanotechnology products and microsystem technology;
— to design technological processes for the production of nanotechnology products and microsystem technology using standard application software packages.
The specialty allows you to work in manufacturing companies, in research centers around the world: in “Shvab”, “NII” Polus “named after. M.F. Stelmakh (part of the holding of the State Corporation Rostec), Research Institute NPO LUCH (part of the scientific division of the State Corporation Rosatom), Center for Convergent Nano-, Bio-, Information and Cognitive Sciences and Technologies of the Kurchatov Institute, Angstrem ”, “Nanotestconsult”, “New Plasma Technologies”, “Niagara”, etc.
