Profession

Architectural theory covers the development of fundamental problems of architecture:
– its social and socio-functional aspects, form and style formation, semantics, aesthetics and artistic imagery, as well as constructive-technical, economic, socio-cultural and environmental conditionality of architectural activity, ethnocultural and regional characteristics, preservation of historical and cultural values, architectural heritage, relationships traditions and innovation, creative development of historical experience.
The history of architecture covers the study of the patterns of development of architecture in connection with the general patterns of the historical process, the history of culture and society:
– identification and study of monuments of architecture and urban planning, patterns and features of the process of development of professional skills from ancient times to the present, the role and place of Russian architecture in the global architectural process of creativity of masters of architecture.
Heritage restoration covers the analysis of the values of historical heritage, the problems of its preservation and inclusion in the system of world culture, the development of new theoretical and scientifically based approaches
to solving practical issues of preserving and restoring the structures and appearance of architectural monuments, analyzing the accumulated experience.
Reconstruction of historical and architectural heritage covers the research and development of proposals on the problems of preservation, conservation and modernization of the historically developed urban environment, individual architectural complexes and buildings, and the reconstruction of lost architectural monuments.
In professional activities, a graduate of graduate school and/or a candidate of architecture solves one or more types of problems: research activities in the field of theory and history of architecture, restoration and reconstruction of historical and architectural heritage, teaching activities in higher and secondary vocational education programs in this field.

Educational Process

The educational process is aimed at developing theoretical knowledge, practical skills and scientific approaches in the field of theory and history of architecture, restoration and reconstruction of historical and architectural heritage. The educational component of the program includes regular classes in the history and philosophy of science, foreign languages, higher education pedagogy and specialized disciplines, conducting research seminars with the participation of leading professors of the RUDN Engineering Academy and invited scientists. Preparation of dissertations is carried out under the guidance of PhD - leading Russian and foreign specialists.

Practice

Studying under the program involves completing teaching practice, which postgraduate students undergo on the basis of the RUDN Engineering Academy.

Career

Graduates who have mastered the program are focused on working in the field of history of architecture, culture and society and their patterns of development; reconstruction and restoration of architectural and urban planning monuments; study of the values of historical and architectural heritage. Such specialists are in demand not only in Russian, but also in international government and municipal authorities, academic and departmental research organizations, and professional educational organizations.
