Profession

The design of buildings and structures is an integral part of the construction industry, and knowledge of the theoretical foundations allows you to design building structures, taking into account the most efficient use of materials. When urbanization is actively developing, the profession of a design engineer is especially in demand. The rapidly changing living conditions allow us to say with confidence that this profession will remain relevant for a long time to come. There will always be construction, and new requirements imposed by changing living conditions, new building materials, technologies and design tools increase interest in the profession, expand the scope for scientific research and the development of ambitious projects.
A modern professional in the field of theory and design of buildings and structures knows computer calculation programs, is familiar with building codes and recommendations, modern building materials and the basics of programming for solving applied engineering problems.

Educational Process

The program is implemented by leading specialists of the Construction Department on the basis of modern research laboratories.
The training includes internships and graduation theses (Master’s theses) in cooperation with interested companies. The program also prepares graduates for participation in scientific work, admission to graduate school and education of future leaders in the field of construction science.
Whithin the scope of the master’s program, students study both general scientific disciplines and disciplines of general engineering training (special sections of higher mathematics, mathematical and computer modeling, analytical and numerical methods for calculating building structures, the theory of plates and shells), and special disciplines (designing building structures (reinforced concrete , metal, wood), reliability of building structures and structures, dynamics of structures, stability of structures, seismic safety of structures, computer technologies for calculating and designing building structures, etc.).
The program provides for an in-depth study of English in the construction specialty. The students of the program have the opportunity to listen to a number of disciplines in English, as well as get acquainted with the design rules according to the standards of foreign countries.

Practice

In the process of training, masters undergo practical training in design and research organizations (“The Research Center of Construction”, “ZET-PROEKT”, etc.), and also communicate with leading practitioners in the framework of scientific and methodological seminars, round tables and master -classes.
Students of the master’s program actively participate in specialized conferences, seminars and exhibitions, and also learn to solve:
— calculation-theoretical and constructive issues of designing buildings and structures;
— problems of the mechanics of a deformable solid body in the calculations of building structures;
— issues of fracture mechanics and its application to assessing the performance of building structures;
— issues of application of modern methods for calculating structural systems based on discrete and continual models;
— questions of application of methods of optimal design of structures;
— issues of application of modern methods of diagnostics and testing of building structures;
— problems of reliability and safe operation of buildings and structures;
— issues of computer-aided design of buildings and individual structural elements.

Career

As a result of mastering the program, students acquire skills in the field of calculation and design of building structures of buildings and structures. Graduates are able to use modern software systems for the design of building buildings and structures of any complexity and can work in design organizations in the construction industry as a design engineer or design engineer with the prospect of growth to the head of the design department, chief specialist, chief designer, chief project engineer and others senior positions, as well as in research institutes as a junior researcher with the prospect of growth to a senior researcher, research engineer, etc.
Graduates of the program can develop further careers in one of the following areas:
— continuation of education and scientific work in graduate school;
— work in design construction organizations;
— work in research organizations;
— work in construction companies in senior positions.
