A linguist is a specialist in translation, teaching and scientific description of languages. In the era of broad international cooperation between Russia and other countries, Russian language specialists, translators and teachers are in demand in many countries of the world. The profession of a linguist is in demand in schools and universities, translation agencies, public and international organizations, expert and scientific institutions.
Educational Process
The peculiarity of this specialty is that Russian is the main foreign language for students. Within the framework of the master’s program, special disciplines from the field of translation studies and methods of teaching Russian as a foreign language are taught. Elective disciplines allow acquiring communication skills in a professional field, study translation technologies or getting acquainted in detail with new scientific methods of research and teaching of the language.
The uniqueness of the program lies in the combination of knowledge and skills necessary for specialists in research of languages and cultures, and a high level of practical training in the Russian language.
The main form of classroom studies is seminars and practical classes, interactive classes in translation, Russian language, and intercultural communication, which teach students to solve practical problems of translation and communication in Russian using business games and modeling of communicative situations.
During studies, graduate students study “Theory and history of linguistics”, “Pedagogy and psychology of higher education”, “General theory of translation”, “Language and intercultural communication”.
A significant part of the master’s preparation is the student's research work, participation in the scientific life of the department and the preparation of a master’s thesis related to future professional activities.
Practice
Students practice as teachers of the Russian language in a foreign-language audience, as interpreters and translators, and together with teachers participate in research projects.
Career
Graduates of the program can freely translate texts of various functional styles from Russian; teach Russian in higher educational institutions; advise companies involved in economic and cultural cooperation with Russia; work at joint ventures; participate in international educational and scientific projects.
A graduate of the master’s program in Linguistics can work in the field of higher and general education, as well as in the economy and social sphere as a translator, teacher, researcher, specialist in the field of linguistics and intercultural communication.
