Philology is the science of love for the word, and a philologist is a specialist in the field of language and literature, with a large number of universal and special skills and abilities that are necessary in various professional fields. The qualities and competences acquired by students in the Philology program make them into interesting and attractive personalities, which will undoubtedly contribute to building a successful career in any field of social activity.
In addition, having deep knowledge in the field of language and literature, a philologist is able to quickly process the information flow and create texts that meet the requirements of effective communication, which is the basis of the modern information society.
The education of a philologist opens up wide opportunities for professional realization: teaching, including tutoring, research, publishing, translation, work in the media and advertising. Thanks to general cultural and communicative competences, philologists are in demand in the field of culture and tourism. Philological education will also help those who want to work for themselves: freelance speechwriters, copywriters, proofreaders, editors, tutors and content managers are always in demand.
Having a basic philological education and after receiving additional knowledge, skills and abilities, one can become a highly qualified specialist in almost any humanitarian profession.
Educational Process
Students study a wide range of philological disciplines, as well as acquire the knowledge and skills of a general humanitarian nature, skills of intercultural communication and practical activities in educational organizations necessary for life and work.
Particular attention is paid to fundamental humanitarian disciplines: theoretical courses of the Russian language (“Phonetics”, “Word formation”, “Lexicology”, “Morphology”, “Syntax”), the history of Russian and foreign literature, methods of teaching Russian as a native and foreign language. A significant place in the program is occupied by applied disciplines that form the practical competences of a philologist.
Foreign languages are a big part of the curriculum. “Translator” continuing education program is available.
Practice
The program includes several types of practices:
1. pedagogical practice in Russian as a foreign language;
2. pre-diploma (research) practice at the graduating departments of general and Russian linguistics, Russian and foreign literature, the Russian language and its teaching methods.
Career
Broad and thorough theoretical and practical training allows graduates to work both in highly specialized and related professional fields.
The formed universal, general cultural and professional competencies allow new professionals to quickly adapt to the challenges and needs of the modern world.
A graduate of the program “Philology” can work
— in the field of education (teacher of Russian language and literature, teacher of Russian as a foreign language, methodologist, curator of educational and educational projects, etc.);
— in the publishing business (editor, proofreader, rewriter, publisher, etc.);
— in the media and advertising (copywriter, editor, scientific consultant, correspondent, etc.);
— in the field of culture (translator, speechwriter, museum worker, guide, culturologist, etc.).
Other possible professions: marketer, SMM specialist, SEO specialist, digital linguist, linguistic expert in the judicial field, creator and editor of various sites on culture, literature, language, head of social programs, etc.
