The RUDN University International Institute for Strategic Development of Sectoral Economics (IISDSE) activity is based on the synergy of education, science and industrial partnership.
The relevance of educational and research programmes on the international scientific and educational market is achieved by their interdisciplinary character and a flexible approach to them.
The IISDSE does a series of research into developing export potential of Russian commodity producers in order to increase the volume of non-resource non-energy exports, including by reducing technical barriers and increasing the competitiveness of Russian goods when entering foreign markets.
Institute experts monitor the best foreign practices and conditions that facilitate the import of quality products to the Russian market. Since 2020, the IISDSE has been focusing its efforts on promoting products and services under the Halal brand, as well as probiotics and pharmabiotics as the basis for creating functional products, including for therapeutic and preventive nutrition. Research into the molecular genetic aspects of socially significant diseases and adverse effects of environmental factors continues in the same block.
The most important IISDSE research lines for the next decade are the ecological and economic assessment of the potential for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in coal-mining regions and the assessment of the carbon footprint of Russian enterprises. The IISDSE jointly with the RUDN University Institute of Ecology pursue a project on local assessment of absorption of greenhouse gases (environmental monitoring system of the RUDN University campus — “carbon test site”).
The Institute cooperates with the structures of the national accreditation bodies of Russia, the Republic of Belarus, Italy, Turkey.
The IISDSE employees participate in the work of the International Working Group on Waste and four international professional associations:
- International Association of Hydrogeologists;
- International Desalination Association;
- IPIECA (Global Oil and Gas Industry Association for Advancing Environmental and Social Performance);
- European Association for Computer-Assisted Language Learning.
The Institute’s partners include 21 universities in 15 countries.

The Institute hosts public lectures and master classes of professors from Italy (University of Palermo, Polytechnic University of Milan); Jordan (Jordan University of Science and Technology); Poland (Wroclaw University of Science and Technology), USA (Columbia University), etc.

Every year, the IISDSE employees become experts of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, speakers of the Nevsky International Ecological Congress, Ecology International Forum, events of the Global Food Forum, etc.
